There is an alternate timeline where he realised his whole potential and was still on our list.
****ing around with talented players by giving them 'a role' is what kills them.

Kinda funny that we now have Parker on our list when we should've had Harper be the player we needed. Showed so much talent in his first two years but then disappeared rapidly after that. Injuries, setbacks, bad form in VFL and then delisted. If we're going to pay high, we need to invest just as much as the price we paid. Give it absolutely everything for that player to make it.

Kinda ironic that DuckYeah is complaining about development and yet also complained about getting rid of Tarryn Thomas. We couldn't develop any level of consistency or improve his character. Was that due to the lack of development resources from when we drafted him?

It comes back to my original point. We've witnessed other clubs find a way through and yet we're still stuck in the maze.

and how much did we stifle Lmac's development? Pick 8 is a pretty serious investment.

I'm sure playing him as a lockdown defender stuck in the back pocket helped catapult his career. Yep, it catapulted him into a dumpster fire that's what happened.

One best and fairest medal in a horrible year during the pandemic. That's all we got.

Shaun Atley suffered from the same problem. Electric pace and disposal but chuck him at half back because that makes sense. We only had the slowest midfield ever at our disposal so it made sense to not play him in the guts from the get go because two-way running doesn't exist.
Electric disposal from Atley? 😂 ya kidding yaself. He couldn’t kick when we drafted him. Shit kicks are always shit kicks

I can pull a lot of tapes from his first few years. He was a very reliable kick at full tilt. Largely the reason we became a very good offensive side in 2012.

You're thinking of the bloke that got 200 games under his belt but didn't have much to show for it. The recency bias is a bit too strong here.

Hahaha he blasted it over leading players heads.. settle down. He was a ****in cabbage that didn’t deserve to be a 200 game player

Because like all those other players there was nothing to develop. It was very poor recruiting.
But was it poor recruiting or poor development? Can you name anyone from our development program other than Gavin Brown all the way through the 2010s? Who was overseeing Bastinac's progress? He was putting on a show against Geelong! Geelong! 26 possessions and 4 goals! In his third year! Then a few years later he is traded after his form drops considerably and I guarantee you the posts in his player thread back then would be complaining about the exact thing I've raised as an issue tonight.

Maybe a few of those players had some limitations. But you do your homework right away and work around them like every other club does. You find a way.

Not everyone needs to be a superstar but you can develop a consistent team. We need sustainable consistency and that comes with spending the time and money on development. Why recruit that player if you're gonna do **** all to improve the strengths and weaknesses?

We may as well keep recruiting delisted players if we can't recruit for shit. It doesn't make sense. There are far too many names that didn't make it to just be 'we can't recruit'.

We're experts at killing talented players except the select few that do somehow make it. That's how it's been for the last 20 years. Need to change that.

It was identified as a shortcoming when Clarkson and Viney were appointed and now we've rectified it. Anyone can see that it's a good move.

the list goes on and on...

We desperately needed development resources and had to address it. How many times did we look at a first year kid and go 'far out he goes alright' then 3-4 years down the line he gets in at game 40-50 (if he's lucky to get near that) because we resorted to topping up and he plays like shit? What was our plan? We completely ****ed whatever possibility of stabilising the list by clinging onto opposition club discards. That's great list management and development 🤦‍♂️.

DuckYeah, this isn't a '** yeah, I'm right' moment for you it's a '** no, this is flat out wrong' type moment. Respectfully, don't complain we've put in the $$$ for development because when every other club can turn pick 75 or rookie pick ******** into a bonafide star it shits me just as much as the rest of us. We want a slice of that cake. Make it ****ing happen. Find the diamonds in the rough when we've used a bazillion high draft picks already and put some ****ing resources to develop them!

The last thing I want is a Luke Urquhart type to be let down by a lack of development resources like we had in the past and we get rid of him because we have a surprised pickachu face moment wondering why he couldn't develop his strengths and mitigate his deficiencies on his own.

Every single player needs development time and attention. Every single one. That's what gives you the best possible chance of improving. You put in, the performances back it up.
As the resident Aaron Black fan boy, I just have to say: How dare you include him on this list.

The bloke had a shoulder hanging by a thread and wanted to go in to get it fixed. The Bard wouldn't allow it and played him injured, leading to shattering his confidence, and his shoulder.

Was never the same.

Well aware of this and should put an asterisk but other players had injury woes as well.

The theme here is we mismanaged players once they were drafted. I was a big fan of Aaron Black and it's so frustrating to read a few names that had so many highlights in their debut years then you never see them again.
