Did not see lnvy game, how did they go ? and has Killy improved ?

Not sure why you blokes are putting Dalyston in the top 5. From what I saw in the practice matches they are a long way off from Phillip Island.

Don't know much about the standard of league (apparently similar too or slightly worse than EDFL), but Kilcunda Bass have picked up a couple of guys who were very good EDFL players in Luke James and Ryan Fitzgerald.

ps: what is dalystons new recruit paddy mckenna like?

Paddy was tremendous in his three years up at Yea (two as a playing coach), as was last year's B&F and skipper Chris Graham. If both lads remain fit and stay on the park they'll be worth whatever it is they're getting :thumbsu:

Cracking fella's too

Bass will struggle to make finals will need a bit of luck slight improvement on last year.

your kidding arnt you bass will play finals if not top 4 have a great list won all 3 practices matchs by 100 plus points and played very aveage on weekend and still beat a pretty good invy outfit

The Sentinel Times reported today that the allies 2nds forfeited blamed travel for thier woes (it was a home game for them) blamed Phillip Island blamed Bass, blamed VCFL, they don't want to travel to I.K. Dalyston, Bass, Korumburra, Phillip Island.
Maybe before playing the blame game hold the mirror up and have a good hard look and ask why they can't get numbers to play.

The worst part of the report in the paper is that P.I. refused to give the Allies any players so they could have a game if true Its a sad day for country football and a sad day for the Phillip Island football club and committe.

I do hope its not a stunt like the Yarram Wonthaggi forfeit a couple of years ago.:mad:

Whoever made the comment about dalyston being average.
From what i have heard the players they have picked up from other leagues are guns. paddy mckenna chris graham etc;

They have also picked up albie russel (tarwin) and have gained kainen schrape from wonni. both good recruits. i wouldnt write them off from finals contention just yet.

But i must admit they havent played a good side yet, so my ladder predictions were abit premature... will have to see how they go against the islands, fosters, stonys & mdus of the league before we comment much further....

MDU are going to be terrible this year. Dalyston will most likely beat them by at least ten goals. They've gone backwards from last year, of which they didn't even make finals. This year signals a return to old habits for MDU.. losing. :p

a lot of big statements flying around after one round. Maybe we should sit back and see how things unfold after 4-5 games. Looking at they way clubs have recruited I would say that the comp is going to be the most even we have seen in years, with only a handful of clubs not capable of making finals. Its going to be a cracking season of Alberton footy

This is a case of inaccurate reporting...
Richard Schmeiszl has a habit of stretching the truth in search of a story and that is definitely the case in this instance.
Firstly, all of the Island players turned up to the ground expecting a game, and were changed getting ready for the game before a DWWWW official came into the changerooms and said they were struggling to field a side on the day. The Allies had only had 5 Reserves players turn up to the game, and the Allies Under 18s coach wasn't willing to fill the majority of the side with Under 18 players who had already played a game which is fair enough. The Island was willing to hand over a couple of Under 18 players as well as Reserves players to have a game, but with DWWWW only able to come up with 5 players they decided to put in a forfiet. The Island ended up playing a scratch match between themselves with 11 a side. So the part of the article, 'Phillip Island refused to allow any of its squad to switch clubs to make a game.' has no credibility at all as the Island tried to get a game. Why would a team drive 2hrs and not wanna give up some players to have a game of footy. In the past few years the Phillip Island club has been a fine example of lending players to other teams, last year for instance in a Fourths game the coach decided to lend the best players of each quarter to the other team to even up the match. I have played in Thirds games where I've donned the jumper of the opposition for a quarter to help out, its just the way it goes sometimes and the club has not problem with that.

Secondly, in reference to the line in the article 'Many Island parents and supporters expressed their anger forcefully. They had left home at 5am for the long trip'. This is an absolute joke!!! No one in there right mind would leave Phillip Island at 5am even to get to a Fourths game, let alone a Reserves game, where most of the players dont have to rely on parents to drive them to the game. I really dont know where this reporter gets some of this information to be honest.

Yes, the players were angry which is understandable, wouldn't you be if you drove 2hrs keen for the first game of footy of the year only to be told shortly before the start of the game that the other team was forfieting. The least the Allies could have done was given the Island a call the night before or on the Thursday night to let them know they werent going to have a team to save them the trip. The Allies were embarrassed by the forfiet and did refund the Reserves players their gate money and supplied them with a couple of slabs of beer which was a good gesture.

I think the Island deserves an apology from the reporter involved because all it does is make our club look bad, and what people should learn is not to believe all of the rubbish that he writes in the newspaper.

The allies president Mr Farley should make an apology as well as he was the one who gave the quotes to Schmeiszi.

Smells like a stunt to stir up trouble with the clubs at the west end of the league.
Sometimes its easier to blame everyone else for your troubles

It's just after round one and teams are already a write off in this league? I've never experienced anything like this! I pity anyone that has to play low level country football under scrutiny from people I assume aren't that good in this league! How can ladder predictions even be made now?

Yeah but i reckon Schmeiszl is the one to blame, every article that is written in the Sentinel in regards to league changes and this topic is written by him and it usually has something in it that isn't the truth, it's not good journalism when its lies. I remember he wrote last year that Phillip Island would be supported a move to the Casey-Cardinia League, when no one from our club had said anything about wanting to move to that league and in fact we were strongly against it. People just need to learn not to take in all of his b******t

Phillip Island's stance on the for forfeiture was pathetic and unsportsmanlike. If the Allies don't have the numbers to field a seconds side then it is as simple as, that they can't be expected to pull players out of thin air.
Its a bit rich that the Island would expect thirds players to play another game. Those boys have no obligation to if they don't want to play again just so some average Island reserves can have a run. If the P/Island reserves were so desperate to have an actual game the only thing they can do is lend some players to the Allies.
For Phillip Island to blame the Allies for their own unsportsmanlike behavior is a new low for them. They are clearly doing themselves no favors when it comes to putting themselves on good terms with all the other clubs in Alberton.
This demonstration shows that P/Island have well overstayed their welcome in Alberton.

Didnt you read what i wrote earlier????
The Island offered the Allies players so we could have a game but they forfieted because they only had 5 players... it was their decision!
We were fine with it until this came out in the paper badmouthing the club when we did nothing wrong at all. We didnt expect there thirds to play that was never said.

Can you tell me how it is unsportsmanlike to offer another team players to try and get a game of footy??? last time i checked that would be good sportsmanlike behaviour you fool.

Its time people on here start talking some real footy instead of having cheap shots at other clubs, the league and eachother.
Can anyone tell me how korumburra r shaping seems they had the bye last wk??
