Re: All Australian Hawks

Croad, Bateman & Roughead are very stiff not to at least get selected in the squad.

Let me guess, Adrian Anderson and Robert Walls are picking the squad.

All Australian Selectors
Gerard Healy
Kevin Bartlett
Robert Walls
Mark Bickley
Rod Austin
Chris Mainwaring (replaced by Glen Jakovich)

DEFENDERS (12):
Nathan Bock (Adelaide)
Luke McPharlin (Fremantle)
Matthew Scarlett (Geelong)
Andrew Mackie (Geelong)
Corey Enright (Geelong)
Tom Harley (Geelong) Bench
Darren Milburn (Geelong)
Luke Hodge (Hawthorn)
Daniel Pratt (North Melbourne)
Sam Fisher (St.Kilda)
Max Hudgthon (St.Kilda)
Dale Morris (Western Bulldogs)

MIDFIELDERS (16):
Simon Black (Brisbane)
Chris Judd (Carlton)
Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle)
Gary Ablett (Geelong)
Jimmy Bartel (Geelong)
Joel Corey (Geelong)
Joel Selwood (Geelong)
Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)
Drew Petrie (North Melbourne)
Brett Deledio (Richmond)
Matthew Richardson (Richmond)
Lenny Hayes (St.Kilda)
Brett Kirk (Sydney)
Dean Cox (West Coast)
Daniel Cross (Western Bulldogs)
Adam Cooney (Western Bulldogs)

FORWARDS (12):
Jonathan Brown (Brisbane)
Daniel Bradshaw (Brisbane)
Brendan Fevola (Carlton)
Paul Medhurst (Collingwood)
Matthew Pavlich (Fremantle)
Steve Johnson (Geelong)
Lance Franklin (Hawthorn)
Brent Harvey (North Melbourne)
Daniel Motlop (Port Adelaide)
Nick Riewoldt (St.Kilda)
Ryan O'Keefe (Sydney)
Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs)

Hughton and Morris ahead of Croad?

Yeh, you're kidding.
No what's funny are these guys are infront of the Rough.

Absolutely absurd that the 2nd best team in the land can only get 3 players in the SQUAD! Consider

- 17-5 record, only one less win than Geelong in 07, who managed 9 AA players

- 3rd Best Defence in the league, only one nomination in defence, and to Hodge of all people who has only being playing on the HBF since R17. No Croad but Hudgton  No Brown but Danielle Pratt :confused::thumbsdown:

- 3rd best forward line in terms of 'points for' in the league, and only our 100 goal CHF can manage nomination. There must be a clause that Pavlich gets picked on principle every year cos Rough is dead set stiff to miss out ahead of the Pav in 08.

- Whilst midfielders such as Changa and Sewell probably wouldn't deserve selection in the final 22, surely their contribution to the 2nd best team/midfield in the comp is worthy enough for them to be at least recognised in the squad of 40.

I'm hoping this is not setting a precident, but I have a bad feeling Cyril will get stiffed tmw as well.

Apart from Croad missing out, I would say our reps are just about right.
I refuse to comment on any other selections from other teams as I have absolutely no interest.

I don't know why we are getting upset - the whole AA thing has really lost any meaning and has been that way for quite a few years.

Sure it is a joke but not having at least 4 hawks in there after finishing out right 2nd is bullshit.
I dont care about the AA, but it is respect and what we havent got for the past 10 years...

Finishing second doesn't mean that all your players, or more than 3 anyway, have been consistently good ALL YEAR. There are 16 sides in the competition, not every player thats had a decent year can be selected.

But you cant say that the saints had 4 better players more worthy than hawthorn no way if anything hawthorn should had have atleast 4 players.
buddy
hodge
mitchell
croad
thats a given.............

I think half the geelong guys are lucky. Harley and Mackie are just average and guys like Milburn got picked before the season even started in the selectors minds. Even Scarlett will probably get full back when he plays loose and up the ground chasing kicks.

I thinks its good tho coz they will all ask for more money and stuff up geelongs salary cap.

If geelong dont win the GF by another 20 goals then it will show that the selectors are a joke.

Re: All Australian Hawks

I have no problems with it

Croad unlucky but you can say the same about plenty of others
Brown playing forward hurt his chances it appears

All players in the squad deserve to be there for mine

What difference does it make how many All Australian players we have? Our position on the ladder is irrelevant. There was some year we had a ton and finished 15th or something like that...

Re: All Australian Hawks

Harden up!! Its a bunch of old timers on the selection panel and half of them were very average players themselves...what do you expect?

I think a few people are dreaming by thinking a first year player who's kicked 20 goals will be picked in front of Johnson, Motlop or Medhurst. All have kicked 45 -55 goals for a start.

I think a player has to earn their stripes a bit more.

Without wanting to be biased ;-) if you had a choice betwen Medhurst and Rioli....i can't believe medhurst had as many goal assits, tackles etc...Cyril wins every time.

Don't worry about earning your stripes...whether its your first year or 15th, who cares?

I think Roughead is a little unlucky missing out on a spot in the fwd line squad having kicked 66 goals this year.

Brent Harvey in the fwd line squad, wtf? He plays in the midfield, is fav for the brownlow for playing in the midfield, not up fwd.

You cant underestimate the progressive dementia that afflicts Robert Walls. He is not only an idiot of the highest order, but seems now liberated by complete ignorance to speak with authority on any topic in football. Not only is he an AA selector, but a NAB rising star selector as well. You may as well write off Jnr's prospects there also.

His main problem is accepting that he has made a mistake and changing tack with his arguments. For example, his stand on the crowd running onto the park after the 100 was kicked. Even the following day, when even the coldest of football hearts was warmed by the scene of 1000;s of young (and old....) supporters streaming onto the ground, he still was carping about 'someone getting hurt'. He simply cant accept that he was wrong, that he sounded like an old fool, and that everyone watching TV recognised this.

The most enlightening comments from him recently related to lethal and malthouse. He was correct in suggesting that footy was passing them by t a their age. He fails to notice however that footy, and probably life in general, passed him by some years ago.

He was a failure as a coach, an ordinary commentator and an abysmal selector. The sooner the AFL and Channel 10 buy him a gold wheelchair and put him out to the knackery, the better.

Then perhaps, those mighty fighting hawks will be recognised for their fine achievements.

My AA team

defenders

Brown, Guerra, Ladson, Scarlett, Croad, Gilham, Murphy, Dawson,

Midfielders
Mitch, Hodgey, Sewell, Ablett, Changa, Ellis, Young, Bailey, Campbell

Forwards
Franklin, Roughie, Franklin, Rioli, Franklin, William, Osbourne, Crawford, Franklin

I think thats about is

Couldn't fit in Lewy? Other than that a fairly balanced selection, I thought.:D
Mind you, Franklin x4 was impressive.:thumbsu:

Sorry, forgot no. 3, bad error

I thought the inclusion of Zac may raise some eyebrows, but he is lifting.

The best perspective on this comes from, of all people, Gary lyons

Time to re-jig All-Australian panel

"This is a selection panel that has had a sameness about it for a long time. Healy is in his 18th year as a selector, Bartlett his 14th, Austin his 12th, Walls his 10th. The most recent addition, before Jakovich, is Bickley, who is in his third year.

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson is set to select his fifth All-Australian team this year. With respect, unlike his fellow members, Anderson's qualifications are not as obvious, and with extended time spent overseas studying this year, his role in selecting this year's team is a little curious".
