Re: Geelong to have 1/3 of the AA side

Yeh that was my point. Even though he was named at FF he ran up to the wing and killed Scarlett.

Do you really think Scarlett is worried if Tarrant gets a mark or two up on the wing? All it means is that he's not near goal, which is where he is most dangerous.
Try watching some games other than WCE ones, and you'll have your eyes opened to a whole lot of players within the comp who are playing damn good footy.

Re: Geelong to have 1/3 of the AA side

You say that like it's a bad thing. He receives the ball because he is an elite kicker and gets himself in position to receive the ball!

Just like Egan, Glass is not as good as Scarlett in 07.

Milburn plays loose. Scarlett always has a direct opponent.

It explains his high possessions. Every one of Glass opponent is through directly beating his opponent and getting the ball and disposing of it. Scarletts isnt so his stats are deceiving

Re: Geelong to have 1/3 of the AA side

Bartel and Ablett are lock ins.

Scarlett will be in so long as they do not just pick 1 full back. i.e he will either be full back or back pocket.

Ottens, Milburn, Ling, Corey, Egan etc will be in consideration for spots but could not be called favourites.

Re: Geelong to have 1/3 of the AA side

Im pretty sure i saw Fletcher on Jeff Farmer yesterday but whatever ya wanna believe. Both dont take the best forward at all times

That was 1 game Embers. I think you'll find on a few occasions this season, Fletcher has played loose man in defence.

Scarlett should be AA because not only does he stop his direct opponent on almost every occasion, he's the best rebounding FB in the league, and in this day and age of football considering how important rebound from defense is, Scarlett should be top of the tree for full backs.

That's not to say Glass hasn't had a good season.

I said Scarlett shouldnt be AA Fullback not that he shouldnt be AA. Glass is the better traditional FB and has been the best FB of the season.

Pfft

If you could have a player one out in the sqaure. Scarlett or Glass. Who would you pick. Even the most bias Geelong fans would pick Glass

By no means am I sayin Scarlett should be AA FB but the Goals Against Stat is absolutle bullshit. Against Richmond Scarlett was on top of Richo early then in the second quarter when Richo started to get into the game Scarlett moved off him and Egan went onto him therefore the 4 goals Richo scored go against Egan not Scarlett.

Maybe thats because Richo left the Full Forward position because he wasn't getting a kick on Scarlett.

Scarlo will not leave full back. Many teams try to pull him away from the goal square (i.e. Terry with Richo) but it never works.

So how when he went off Richo did Richo kick goals and Scarlett got touches around the centre. I'm not having a crack a Scarlett I reckon he is great player and should be AA Full Back.

But he definatley doesn't stay in the defensive goal square hell he kicked a goal himself on the weekend.

Goals against doesn't equal best Full Back thats the point I was trying to make.

Well without a doubt I would rather Scarlett. Glass will spoil and chalk it up as a win. Scarlett will spoil, lay a tackle, shepard the ball carrier and then run off his man delivering a pin point pass to a player up the ground.

There in lies the difference. The game doesn't stop once you've beaten your man one out in the contest.

Scarlett only leaves his man when Geelong is in control of the ball. If it is safe, he turns his game into attack and helps to create play; an extra dimension that Glass does not have, he is simply a good stopper.

This quality is also apparent in Ling who is also an attacking stopper, hence the 25.4 goals.

2007 may be the first year we see an genuine tagger get into the team, and that won't be Brad Sewell as many have posted...the sheer weight of Ling's 25 goals this season must put him in the frame for AA.

and I reckon J Brown's second half of the season will push Pavlich, Lucas, Mooney and possibly Cloke for CHF, he's been phenomenal (6 goals again on the weekend and a shoe in for Coleman medallist)
