Why would it matter if Port were better? Gray has been far more of a midfielder this year than last, averaging more disposals, contested possessions, clearances, tackles, inside 50s than last year. The only midfielders (although they average less possessions than Gray and spend more time forward) that are ahead of him in goals kicked are Motlop and Deledio.

And why wouldn't Mundy make the team?

Edit: Realised I missed a bit of conversation and these points have already been raised.
All Australian rarely go to bottom 8 teams. It suck it works that way but it's the truth, history tells us that. So being a better team positioned does have an effect on making it.

I think there are better choices this year.

Dangerfield Fyfe, Priddis, Sydney Josh Kennedy, S Mitchell, D Martin, there's 6 off the bat and Gaff would likely get a spot on a wing aswell as his been exceptional. I suppose Freo being 1st on the ladder will sway Mundy to getting a spot maybe aswell.

Gray isn't going to make it this year, might be a better player then some of the above but this year hasn't had a good enough year taking a spot over the above players I've mentioned.

Ports ladder position plays a huge part in that selection

Port aren't a bottom 8 team.

Also Martin is by no means a guarantee to make it, Hannerbery will though. You've only named 7 Mids anyway (I wouldn't have Dusty in but would add Hanners), there are 5 starting mid spots, at least 1 on the HFF and then at least 3 bench spots. There will be 9 mids at minimum.

I don't think Eagle got a win means any disrespect to Gray and is not slighting him.

Gray has had a tremendous year, better than last when he was AA. But the competition for midfield spots is tough. Really tough. It wouldn't be surprising if Gray weren't named in the 22.

I'd expect a spot in the 40 man squad but I wouldn't be too offended if he doesn't make the final team.

How with 5 mids on the field, maybe 2 on the interchange.

So really could only have 7 midfielders all up in the team.

Unless you put a few forward but that ruins the purpose of it doesn't it. A midfielder is a midfielder not a forward or backman.

But he has had a good enough year. You are bringing him down just because Port have been down this year but that doesn't take away how good a year Gray has had. I showed you his stats earlier and you cannot tell me those stats don't match up to any of those players you put forward as better.

I'm only telling you how the system works for the All Australian. Grays fighting an uphill battle. Stats aside, Priddis should of made it last year on stats and a even winning the brownlow but didn't make it because our position was not good enough in the comp to be noticed. Port in a similar spot this year

This is how:

FB: Laird - Rance - Shaw
HBF: Murphy - Hurley - Wood
C: Gaff - Priddis - Hannebery
HFF: Gray - Cameron - Wingard
FF: Stringer - JJ Kennedy - Betts
R: Goldstein - Fyfe - Dangerfield

I: Mitchell, Mundy, JP Kennedy, Martin

As Gray is still kicking goals and does rest forward, having him on the forward flank lines up with what he does. I have two small forwards (one who occasionally pushes into the midfield on the other flank), one in between forward (Stringer) and two tall forwards.

I have four players who can all go through the midfield on the bench. Mitchell often starts on a back flank, Martin often goes forward also, so there's versatility there.

Then 5 midfielders on the ground. I don't think either Sandi or Nic Nat have been good enough that we NEED a second ruckman in the team, and talls this year have generally been disappointing, especially key defenders.

Edit: In 2014, the All Australian team was made up of 4 midfielders on the bench. If I WAS to replace a bench player with a ruckman, I'd probably do Martin for Sandilands. Martin averages FAR less contested possessions and clearances than Gray and has kicked less goals in more games.

Priddis shouldn't of made it last year and didn't, it had nothing to do with your ladder position. There was no other mid in the AA side that he was better than last year. I do think both he and Gray should make it this year though.

And you said before that there could be only 7 mids which is wrong I guarantee there will be more than that.

Cotchin wont make it, has been too inconsistent but even if the stats are comparable. Cotchin has stepped up as a captain and dragged us back into games and over the line numerous times. Game impact is more important than stats.
That's very true. I was going through the season round by round and realised that Cotchin has actually won theTigers quite a few games this season. Before having a look through some of his games, I hadn't thought that he'd had a good season, and I feel like he's been slightly underrated this year. His first few games weren't great, but over the last 10 weeks or so, he's been pretty good. Definitely not in the same bracket as Fyfe, Hanners, Dangerfield, etc but a good year nonetheless. Unfortunately for him, he'll find it extremely difficult to break into the AA side, with so many quality midfielders to compete with (as there are every year).

He's won quite a few games for the Tigers, even if it was "only" off 25-30 disposals. His quick damaging bursts of involvement have been impressive is season, including a few quarters where he's had 10 possies, 4 tackles, 5 i50s, etc.

If anything, I thought that his 2015 campaign has been better than 2014...
Ok I'd admit that I didn't check his stats. His improved, Freos game style bore me too much to even notice him. He could get a spot in the boring part of the ground. Stick him on the interchange if we have to have him.

Other than Kennedy, I don't think any of our other players will make the final team (which is fine by me- shows that it has been an even team effort with no stand-outs!)
Gaff/Priddis/Shuey/Yeo/NicNat all deserve to make the squad though, and maybe McGovern (if he returns for the final 2 matches of the year)

have you watched any footy this year bar your own team or are you going off the highs of 2014.
Priddis this year shits all over Gray and Mundy who have both dropped off a lot from 2014.

Stop living in the past and come back to Today.
It is 2015 if you haven't figured it out yet.

Gray and Mundy dropped off from last year? I think you the one who hasn't watched much footy this year. Mundy has been unequivocolly better whilst Gray has been thereabouts in terms of output from last year.

The Great Dane Swan is quietly having another quality season.

30 touches and 1 goal per game, could easily be slotted into the HFF.

The only Pie to have not fallen away after the bye.
Swans a tricky one in that on stats alone You would say surely he will make it. But having watched most Collingwood games his influence on the actual matches seems far less than it has been in the past.

Kennedy and Priddis for sure I reckon.
