I agree with that but there were alternative better options for the new stadium that would have given both better value for taxpayers and a better end result for the tassie team and the afl has not seemed to be willing to explore them.
Which better options were those? The site selection report assessment had Mac Point and Regatta Point miles ahead of all other options. Are you referring to the Dean Coleman proposal? The government hasn’t completely shut the door on that. They’ve given Coleman’s consortium a range of tasks / key questions to answer. They’ll resume their discussions next year after they’ve found solutions to the government’s concerns.

Back up if the others fall over could be to redevelop the TCA oval... not sexy at first sight but Adelaide Oval approach keeping the old pavillion at one end could work? Time to be creative.
Very central location too. Brings us back to the roof v no roof issue & using it for cricket?
To be honest, its a once in a generation investment, do it once, do it right - so still think MP is the way to run. The 2.0 proposal does not feel right, has lost of risks attached.

Read the site selection report. The TCA received a score of 40 points (categorised as “poor”); Mac Point and Regatta Point were both over 70 (almost “excellent”) .

Hi all,

Not media per se, but Reddit is writing a Tasmanian preview for Tasmania's 2024 season. It will appear on social media so there's the link. Mods, delete or inbox me for where to post.

I'd love for some more responses to a form. Thus far, I've had two, which makes it hard to write a preview representative of Tasmanian football fans and their viewpoints. So, would appreciate it if you could fill out the below.

Tasmanian Football Club.

Thanks!

Yes i am referring to the coleman proposal for regatta point. I would want to see the final details of the PPP but if the right funding can be sourced to me its a much better project both in terms of the value to the taxpayer and also the capacity for the area to grow with the football club long term.

My problem with the original proposal at mac point is its the wrong site and design imo. I understand why they went there but the space is too constrained and will realistically make it too hard to grow down the track (for example if the team gets to a point where it needs more than 30,000 seats mac point is never realistically going to be able to be extended so youre looking then at a new stadium somewhere else and starting again).
The regatta proposal (if done properly) at a) gives the capacity to expand the stadia and facilities long term if needed and b) brings additional facilities re the proposed hotel/shops/business etc to attract people to the area.
If they were going to pick mac point with all its limitations they needed to get the cost down significantly or get the afl to put in more money-mac point at that price doesnt represent fair value for the taxpayer imo-its a poor deal.

Geelong have had similar issues because our site at SS is so space constrained and if i look at what all 5 stages have cost i think it was way above what it needed to be (ie with some better planning 30 years ago you could have done it for half the cost) its obsence and while i love my footy club i dont think the taxpayer has got fair value for it. I hope the tassie government learns from that mistake re the stadium proposal here.

I dont have faith in the tas govt though i think they are paying lip service to the coleman proposal and wont do anything with it.

They have said Mac Point is going to be able to be increased up to 40,000 later on if required.

Here are the concept images for capacities with AFL configuration.

a) Mac Point designed to be upgradable from 23k > 31k > 40k.

b) 2.0 designed to be upgradable from 24k > 28k.

I believe that both stadiums are going to be designed like Optus Stadium, so the stands can be extended upon down the track by installing additional rows of seating. This means that the upgrades shouldn’t require much (or perhaps any) additional space on the site to deliver the upgrade.

This could be why "Tassie Devils" instead of "Tasmanian Devils" is being quoted in media

Might be way round copyright issues or a compromise of some degree.

I dont think so.

Wish I was in his electorate to vote the fat pr&$k out of office. Tucker joins Sam McClure on Wide World of Sport 14/2:

He’s a genuine POS. Back you go to the scrapheap big Johnny.

Jeremy Rockliff has come out saying he doesn't believe Regatta Point is a good deal and has said they are seeking private funding for Mac Point so they can cap the government spending on the stadium at $375 million.
