I did some research to see what happened way back in the dizzay.

Richmond beats Geelong in the 1967 GF and doesn’t make the finals in 1968.

Collingwood beats Geelong in the 1953 GF and doesn’t make it to September the next year.

Collingwood beats Geelong in the 1930 GF but gets eliminated by Carlton in the first week of the 1931 finals.

FFS if not for the Eagles beating the Kangas in 1993, no team would have ever won a final in the season after a GF victory against Geelong.
