... He's a neat left-footer, but lacks penetration.

It would be remiss of me not to mention his positives, which are obviously his elite running and creative link play, but I don't see him as being overly damaging. He also doesn't kick goals.

I wouldn't mind the fact he's exceptionally outside if he had line-breaking pace, but unfortunately, he's as slow as a wet week. And for me that's the real issue. He'll run all day and accummulate but he doesn't hurt you on the outside with speed or kicking penetration.

So what, essentially he's an "Outside" Dom Tyson? Gets a lot of it, but does sweet F All with it?

Sounds like Sidebottom.
What? I rate Sidebottom, a lot more than the two Ex GW$ Twits (Treloar and Adams)

You wouldn't prefer an outside player with speed ?
Of course but it like we got options. No doubt eagles will want to keep him but being a vic boy he might come home. We'd be silly not to have a good look. Yes he's not the quickest but I don't think he's slow. He'd love the big MCG all year. If we don't get Lever surely we'll focus on someone like Gaff. Maybe even a look at Motlop.

No worries.

I do think he's slow.

Have heard whispers that WC aren't or at least weren't opposed to letting him go if the right offer came along, although that was before they made the finals and won one I think, so they may now be less inclined to have the sizeable cleanout and reset that they apparently were a few weeks ago.
Big call for the Eagles on Gaff. Say they trade him for pick 8 (example) they are making a big list management call. Moving out a top 5 player for a kid.

Who knows where they think they're at internally.

And I think you are full of crap and trolling.

Lets move on.

So because he suggests Gaff may/may not be worth a first round pick he's trolling?

Cmon now

You seriously reckon we'd let a contracted Gaff go for less?

25, has barely missed a game in 6 years, AA 2015, 4th, 1st, 3rd in the B&F the last 3 years before this one where he'll probably be top 5 again.

My comment was more based on the OP's cries of the dreaded 'trolling' as soon as someone even mildly challenged his position.

But to answer your question, it's an interesting one - if he's such a valuable commodity why would your club be entertaining the prospect of letting him walk?

Particularly while contracted?

But I assume you spunk yourself over Zac Merrett?

Jeez, touchy lot.

I personally wouldn't break the bank to get him, don't think he's really a game changer or match winner.

It's ok, he'll be alright.

At this stage it's all hearsay. Gaff will probably play at West Coast for the next 8 years.

On a practical level, he's a Victorian and a FA next year. If he has expressed an interest to return to Victoria it's good business to test the waters now. We've also been treading water for two years and have an obvious area of weakness (centre square) which will take currency to fix. If we lose Gaff and gain some new draftee we will be weaker next year.

As a player, he's very consistent but not a game breaker. Teams with early draft picks seem to think they'll get a Josh Kelly or Dustin Martin with their pick. Odds are, they won't. Teams in the 8 and knocking in the door have different needs and later picks. He's not the difference between North making the finals and not, but he could be make a difference to a team like Melbourne or Geelong or whoever who already have a strong platform to build from. Look at Scott Selwood, Zac Tuohy, Lachie Henderson - these guys aren't superstars of the game but have added to Geelong's side.

Has Gaff indicated a desire to return to Victoria, is the question I suppose. I get what you're saying. He'd still be restricted FA next year though I'm assuming.

A trade for an inside mid rather than a pick would make more sense though, in an ideal world? You still have the spine to be very good, I would've thought - considering what a fit Naitanui brings to the table
