Oh yes you can...main umpire hears decision (from 3rd umpire), next stoppage Red Card issued (shown on scoreboard).
Play resumes after stoppage.
How many times a game will it happen...rarely.
But we need it.
No we don’t need it and no that can’t actually work. You can’t have a player potential kick a goal while the incident is being investigated as that is amateur hour at its finest.

What purpose does a red card serve, it won’t be a deterrent for players it will just slow down the game.

Decision time...does Nathan Brown get sent off for his bump tonight on Saad?
Intentional, illegal, off the ball and Saad was out for the game. A red card would have taken away the advantage gained to the Saints by that hit and would have ended the attempts to even up. So, to me, it fits with the requirements and reasons that have been argued for introducing the red card. That said I don't feel entirely happy with that as a send off action: the bump has always been a part of the game. The Gaff incident seemed more clear cut as whacking someone in the face off the ball has never been acceptable.

I thought this an interesting incident in relation to the question of the red card. Heaps of posts have suggested we are talking about rare occurrences in relationship to the red card. One week down the track we have a second incident. The laws around red cards would have to be very careful worded to avoid this being a red card and thus suggest to me interpretation could become more of an issue than I previously assumed. It has shifted my support away from introducing red cards.

sensible.

with video technology available it would be tough to see how they could mess it up. just need to be conservative on what becomes a red card offence.

also red card needs to be player out of game, not 17 on the field. eye for an eye and all that
