Andrew Walkers shoulder

After downloading the Melbourne game from the weekend and watching it last night, I was really pleased with one passage of play early in the last quarter. Walks took a very heavy knock from Russell Robertson, and his shoulder took quite a bit of the force from this bump. Really encouraging to see Walker get up, no issues with his shoulder, and finish the game on the ground.

Fingers crossed, he can get through the rest of the season, get another pre-season under his belt, and see him back to the Walks we all know for the start of the 2010 season.

Yeah noticed that and was going to comment on it. The line about needing a tractor to pull it out again crossed my mind. Might give him some confidence. I was a bit worried that he took some time to compose himself immediately after though. I held my breath a little bit.

Yeah I am pleased with how he bounced back up with no obvious discomfort to the shoulder. It was a very heavy bump as well, and collected him right on the shoulder, I winced when I saw that, but when he got back up and didn't even rub the shoulder breathed a sigh of relief. :thumbsu:

Gave me 2 scares. Whoever was calling the match, first said it was Gibbs. My heart then skipped another beat when i saw Tex on the ground.

How unlucky would it have been if he injured it a round out from finals

Was very worried when it happened and was glad he got up and was able to continue on.

I've got full confidence in the medical staff at the club so I'm sure the shoulder is very strong now (backed up by the comment about needing a tractor to pull it out of its socket) but that won't stop me, and most of us, worrying about it every time he puts it on the line.

With each and every bump, whilst we'll get nervous and hope nothing happens to him, I'm sure he'll gain confidence. He'll see, if he hasn't already, that the shoulder is strong and he'll have no reservations or 2nd thoughts before throwing his body on the line.

can't remember who was commentating, but they made a good point when that happened-that sometimes you need a big hit like to let you know everything's fine

What really pleased me after the incident was that Walks stayed on the ground while Robbo went to the bench. You would think if Walks was worried about the shoulder he would have headed straight to the bench to have it checked by the club doctor or physio. Demonstrates that Walks has total confidence in the shoulder.

He still has a bit of work to add muscle back on to his upper body. Seems quite lean but that is to be expected as weights work would have been quite limited during his recovery.

I can't emphasise enough how much I believe Walker adds to our side in terms of endeavour and versatility. I feel so much better with him back in the side and he still hasn't experienced a loss yet this year. ;)

Was good to see him get back up from it, hopefully that gives him a bit of confidence in it and we'll see him open up and dominate the way we all know he can.:thumbsu:

I was really worried when Walks took that hit. That's the last thing a club going into finals needs but more importantly that's not what Walker needs and one more could see the end of him. Must fill him with confidence knowing that a hit like that didn't effect his shoulder. Good to see him stay on as well.

Getting this extra confidence might enable him to get in the packs more as he has, understandabley, being on the outside a bit more then usual maybe due to his fear of a reconstruction or maybe that's just his role. Either way a hit like that can only do him wonders...

The Blues' barometer?

Nooo, that tag has a limited shelf life before the player turns to .... err well, before their performances deteriorates.

I have been watching Tex with interest. He appears to be struggling a bit with extending the arms overhead (i.e. for a mark).

It could just be a confidence thing, but it may also be a limitation of the surgery.

It was good to see him take some contact and brush it off. I suspect we won't see Tex at full flight until mid next year........I think the number of injuries he's had in such a short time will take some time to get over mentally.

Bluebear he can only get to a certain point with the injured shoulder before it stops, this is obviously the goal of the surgery. Its never going to pop out, but he will never have full movment in the shoulder, not a massive deal as he has always taken his big grabs around the chest area anyway and has never really fully extended the arms vertically.

The strapping on the injured shoulder actually snapped from the impact and its all good, as mentioned you can gain a lot of confidence from the hit. Good to see the CFC and its supporters behind him, last year especially there was all this talk about trading, its 4 from 4 now with him in the side ;)

I'm with Blues4Flag, I know sentiment rarely raises it's head in modern footy, but Tex is a one-club player as far as I'm concerned.......if he is traded, the cat sniper is let loose ;)

Being at the game we could actually hear the crunch when the collision occurred. It left us a bit worried but once he got up and kept playing you knew the shoulder would be fine.:thumbsu:

Thanks EB.

I was aware that it is a limitation of the surgery. My comment about the confidence is exactly how much the surgery limits his movement, and how much of the available movement he is using.

I.e. Cloke has had similar surgery and takes overhead marks, goes for ruck hitouts......etc.

So I know that at some piont Tex's movement is limited, it was just a query as to whether he is pushing to the limit yet or not. My suspicion is not just yet the way he is moving.

Cheers. :thumbsu:

Walker - god he is awesome (in my mind) - simply can not wait to have waite and walker runnign around, these two push us to flag contention in a full team when all fit.
