APS Season 2011

mate. you have to understand that happens. and the TEAM with the best depth and strength will win. I have highlight 2 key areas you spoke about. about wesley. they are without doubt the best school having the best 22 this year and maybe forever. but that is what has cost them. the purchase of these gun players then play for Vic and rep teams costing them games what would have won anyway. Similar to Carey next year and Scotch the year after in 2013. i dont know all the kids names. but they will have alot of individuals missing costing them the premiership. so buy saying that the premiership deserves to go to the team that can move on if players are lost and blokes not in the best 22 can stand up and play at that level, where Xavier have that strength. i am a Xavier boy, i believe i'm not biased. but there has been 31 players for Xavier this year. that explains a great deal of depth through the top level footballers, still persisting to win games with numerous injuries and state footballers to the better players. argue with me if you please but i dont think theres much to argue about in that area.

about the xavier vs caulfield game. seb gotch is the bloke you speak of? if i know the game of football correctly Richards (CHB) and Golds (HBF/RR) are a much more valuable players than Gotch. Im not saying gotch is no good. he is a gun and would be in the best 10 in APS and so would the other 2. I dunno Gotch v Richards is a good discussion. but either way. with those to in for Xavier and Gotch in for Caulfield, im pretty sure xavier still would have won , and by alot more.

Thirdly, 'the other kid' is verrrrrrry underrated and may sneak as a rookie listed player. in the best for NSW/ACT two weeks in a row now. plays like a chris newman. very effficiant by foot and clean and classy all over the ground.

Have a go at me if you please

Spot on Richo. To think that one man out is more central to Caufield's team than three of Xavier's who were out is borderline ludicrous. And 'the other kid' if I'm not mistaken toweled up Bugg when they met? I don't think Bugg was cruising around on a wheelchair was he.......

Stop living in the past. Caufield lost, Xavier won. And if both teams had full squads, I would still bet on Xavier to win again.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. I respect yours Richoman. I was just responding to a couple of pinheads who are out of touch with reality. As the competition goes, the team on top deserve to be there, but they are there due to the current state of the fixture (tac/aps/nationals)...not because they're the best.

I wasn't talking about Gotch.

Different kid again. Not a NSW rep. No more cat and mouse. I've said enough.

yeah i like ya. you seem to understand what is going on. what i am most strong about though is people who believe wesley are worthy winners for buying players. im not a fan.

nah look mate im not a wesley student, lol jks of course i am, and i know that wesley have no scholarships, were just a really good footy farm at stkilda road and glen waverly. Jealousy is a curse and all of you have it, just because we are so good you need to pull us down. We take pride in performance and we know even when we lose, we are the best so richoman, i say good day!

this bloke is winding you up all. i know the character and he is looking for some fun. everyone knows the facts. follow the code of conduct blacklike. dont **** around

There were two out, the second is Vic Country's CHB, absolute gun which was a huge loss.

gee dont have too much fun.....if this place is serious the best question ive seen regarding the APS season, is.....

Would you rather an APS premiership??? or have 5 players drafted???? such the predicament wesley could find themselves in come november.

_____________
have you ever seen richo with a girl?? i think hes a fan of men

Yeah well of course id love skevs to have 5 draftees (pretty much had 4 last yr) in one yr, but in the long term they may not all make it to any form of solidness let alone greatness. In that case the short term school euphoria would probably be more satisfying. But you never now... Would you rather the school pride of wining a premiership or knowing 5 boys went to afl clubs in that yr... quite the hypothetical - out of those wesley boys just quietly, id rate greene with having the most potential to go somewhere, then probably hal... don't really know much about curran and frost and don't think darrou will make it.

Yeah fair call, probably same order i would have had, except i would have sam frost way up the top end of the draft. When you so dont know about him and curran, are you meaning getting drafted? or careers after being drafted?

Both i guess, ive seen frost but havent seen him play much or anything, and i don't know about curran.
You really won't know how succesful an 18 yr old kid will be in AFL at this age, unless they are a superfreakshow, otherwise there is no certainty, especially with chronic injuries, which can destroy promising football careers.

what were the scores? surely it must have been a good/close game? standouts for both teams?

congratulations to skevs, better luck to xavier next time!

ps: did many people come to watch the game?

caulfield and skevs in the box seat now.
If Skevs do win it this year it will be a great story for the school, coming off the last two years where skevs have been one of the favourites and more dominant teams in the aps everyone thought they would just slide down the table and not be much competition, for the majority of the year they have had atleast half a dozen of there "top" players out (G.Gleeson,C.Gleeson, B.coates, M.campbell, J.Wheeler, M.Partarco, Thats all i got told i may be missing a couple) all of these players would of have been certain starters each week, G.Gleeson last year was one of skevs most dominant players as a year 10, C.Gleeson and B.coates are two of there main big men, J.Wheeler has played two games in the 1sts since year 10 as he keeps having a bad run with injury(This kid played under 15's Vic Metro, and was named in the best in their GF), M. Partarco would have been one of their main midfielders, and M. Campbell played the first game but then got an injury and hasnt played since, he was the glue of that midfield the hardest worker in the team so having him out left a big hole. Good effort by the skevs unit to be able to have the players to step up and fill these roles shows how good their football program is and their depth. They had to really grind against xavier as xavier showed they are the best drilled side in the aps, they do that full ground press very well but it fell down in the last quarter as skevs wingers just ran up the sides at will. Xavier ruckman were not as influential as i had expected the young toohey (im pretty sure thats who it was) from skevs was able to hold his own against one of the best ruckman in the aps in prowse, which is not an easy thing to do.Xaviers sibasaddo was very good but didnt get enough help when he needed it, he almost tore the game apart at one stage but was well held. It was a great game with xavier leading the majority of the game but skevs persistance got them across the line, plus xaviers missed shot on the siren. It was a great sight to see the large crowd of xavier boys at one end and the skevs boys at the other end, i was along the side and seeing that support in those large numbers just made the game that much better. It is setup for a gf between caulfield and skevs by the look of it, the smashing skevs recieved last year from caulfield may have an impact on them mentally which wont help when you come up against a team with the likes of Bugg, Kelly and Gotch, but what they have gone through to get where they are i dont think it will effect them this year. I dont know who i want to win this year, i have always had a soft spot from the old judd days for caulfield and feel because they didnt win it last year it would be a shame to come 2nd 2 years in a row but from doing a bit of research into skevs year it would be a great story for them to win it so will take the next couple of weeks for me to decide.

Feedback on any of this is welcome, other opinions are the best way to really understand whats going on especially if there is any boys from these teams that can shed some light or inside word as all of mine is from an outside view which can sometimes not be very accurate.

Pretty spot on, but Coates is shit mate. Played in the 2's and was a thug who did 2 good things for the game.

Free kick stat is very interesting for the St Kevins Xavier 1's game.

who were your best players from both teams yesterday?
Skevs: 3, Purcell, 32, the full forward (redhead), and connor ross i think his name was (played hb) very solid defender.
Xavier: Sibbasado, 5, 7 played a good defensive role, rioli had his moments but is so inconsistent, there was another one of the midfielders i thought was good but i cant find my notes.

It was his first game for the season and has done no preseason because he had an operation on his back i got told, but yehh didnt do a whole lot, was a crap game all around.
The umps were terrible lets not lie, theyd have a favourite for 5 minutes and then change to the other team, almost ruined the game at one stage.

Caulfield vs St Kevs will be huge hopefully both teams have a complete squad to choose from so we can see APS footy at its best.

5 for Xavier is Matty Merlo, very good player from Calder and U16 Vic, touted to be Captain next year!
7 is Toby Plant, loves the college, played very well on Purcell at one stage! Kicked on of the best goals ive ever seen, nice snap!
25 James Breust Was quite good as well as 32 Jordan Collopy!

The Small Dark skinned guy for skevs killed Xavier, very good player.
Ill be the first to admit and i am a xavier boy, We had our opportunities and didnt take them, the umpiring was bad but it was consistantly bad. I feel for Patty Tiernan who had the chance to win the game and was under an immense amount of pressure, he kicks them 9 times out of 10. Congrats to Skevs, i hate to say that, but credit where credit is due, they fought back well after being tested in the 3rd quarter, well done.

Both Cheersquads were massive, really good to see so much support for the game, always a good contest between these two, already looking forward to next years!
