Are Essendon the real deal?

i rekon we will be fighting for a spot... but you gotta remember, essendon have a bye in round 24, so if we wanna make the finals, we really need to do it ourselves and not wait on other results.

personally, i think a successful season would be at least 10 wins... whether that puts us in the 8, we won't know until the end of the season. of course ill be a little disappointed if we miss out, who isnt dissappoint when thier team isnt playing in september... but in saying that, this is a rebuild, new gameplan season... another full preseason for our kids and we will be a powerhouse once again...

Bomber Thompson is still the best coach in the game.

These players havent magically received more talent, they have simply been organised and structured in a manner which wins football games.

Essendon will be hard to topple this year.

Yup. Ive been arguing this for years. So many posters always claim Bomber isnt that good, its just the team makes him look good. But its he who made the team in the first place!

I doubt Bombers will be a force this year or whatnot, but Thompson is as just as responsible for the Bombers early success as Hird is.

friggin saints riuned my Free whopper. WD dons. Was really looking forward to Saints zV Collingwood in rd 11, but maybe GC V CW will be a better game....

The Bombers will be a top 6 side this year.

Already the ability of the Bombers to create space for their forwards to lead into is apparent, very Geelongesque.

As is the focus on the spread from the clearance and a tendency to play on through the corridor.

Hird may bring something to the table, but it looks too Geelong like for me.

Hird could be the public face with Bomber pulling the strings, a perfect set up for both.

If we can knock off Carlton next week and then probably lose to Collingwood, we'll be 3-2. Then...

Gold Coast (Etihad) W
West Coast (Etihad) W
Lions (Gabba) W
Richmond (MCG) Winnable
Melbourne (MCG) Winnable
Freo (Patersons) L
North (Etihad) Winnable

If we can win 2 of the 3 winnables, we'll be 7-3 after 10. We've got a pretty tough draw after that but finals are definitely a chance. C'mon lads!

They defeated both WB & St. Kilda in 2010. Perspective.

But its not just who they have beaten. Its their gameplan, its their structure, its how some of their players have obviously improved.

Not many people are saying they will win the Flag. but their is a massive difference between Bombers this year and Bombers last year.

2 wins doesn't make a season. They always trouble St. Kilda & despite a poor w/l ratio, they trouble the WB.

Carlton will tell a lot. Another team that they have matched up well against. Carlton though have modified their gameplan.

They'll make the finals, but this post is more of a bookmark for those people at the end of the season that they say it didn't come as much of a surprise. The poll was well in favour of the bombers not making the 8 and should've closed at the start of the season, because as people continue t read this throughout the season more people will vote for the 'yes' option such that it overtakes 'no' leading people to not put the poll into its rightful perspective - that the majority didn't believe essendon would improve by that much.

No you have it wrong, Bomber is a crap coach who was at fault for losing the 2008 grand final with the cats, but it was the players that won 2007 and 2009, therefore making him a crap coach. Also, look to 2010 to prove that he is a hopeless coach, and that his list coached itself to two flags and not he

Good start but a long way to go - if we win next week and lose to the Pies, I would be happy with a 3-2 start.

You are right power king. Infact we spent the off season getting told we had the worst list in the comp. Bigfooty has a short memory.

We were lucky. Once again we struck a good side having a down day. We didn't win it, they lost it.

Can't wait for Carlton and Collingwood.
