Hall obv. But Griffin and Brodie Moles. Boyd being Boyd. Cooney showing some explosion. I think it's exciting times at dog-land. See you at the family day. Oh yeah, made a quick fiddy getting 2:1.

Moles also had a great game and Gia. Super happy bout Hall, BUT wont get respect for Hall until he does that in the Season. All in all loved the boys performance tonight (Y)

The pressure was continually applied when we got the ball tonight. Effected a lot of our diposal. And the Dogs field kicking is great to watch.
I know it's only NAB cup but that game should sell a few memberships.

Some positive signs tonight. Early days though.
Sums up my thoughts. Biggest plus was that the tackling and second efforts were good from the whole team :thumbsu:
Skills from both sides were rusty but that's common in the NAB cup. Hall won't always benefit from playing against an undersized opponent. I expected more from Everitt and Grant. A confidence boosting win nonetheless.

Some thoughts:

I really liked the look of Hill and Hall in the same forward line. And I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens when Johnno joins them.

Gia was fantastic and his delivery into the 50 combined with the above should provide some happy times.

Aker looked like he still has a lot to offer.

Everitt showed some good signs.

Hargrave was excellent.

Harbrow was off for most of the game. Any idea why?

Cooney and Griff looked the goods. Roll on season 2010! :thumbsu:

nothing more say.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................GOLD............................................................................................................................................

Positive signs. Can't take much out of the NAB Cup. We played a fairly weakened Hawks side tonight.

What I learnt is that the Hawks would be unbeatable if they played the Tigers every week.

It's Feb...it's NAB cup...The Hawks had serveral running mids not playing but i'd rather be winning and playing well than not, for me...the best thing was the effort...the tackling....they played it like it was home and away and that indicates change in mindset i think.

Hall look imposing, strong and best of all agile...he moved very well for an 23 year old let alone 33 year old...

So yeah i'm excited, we should be, but i'm not getting carried away, its a long season, I'll be more excited if we beat the Hawks like that in RD 3 when they have a full team in...then it will mean something!!!

I'd had a few drinks and got caught up in Barry mania last night. Many texts were sent. It's strange having a strong target in the forward line.

Was impressed with Everitt gain. Hope he keeps it up.

Some non-Barry Hall thoughts......

Yes it was NAB Cup. Yes Hawthorn were undermanned. Yes it's a long season.

But you couldn't help but be impressed with that performance. The pressure on the opposition, particularly in our forwardline was incredible. Hawthorn were hardly given space all night. The thing that struck me was the self belief. They see themselves as one of the top sides and they expect to win. You can see it in their whole demeanor.

As for individuals......

Although Taylor is a spud and had little support from the hawks young debutante ruckman, both Hudson and Roughead monstered them in the ruck contests. Have never seen Hudson look fitter and Roughead looked very comfortable out there. Big Will has some competition this year and that's a good thing.

Josh Hill was wasteful but looked a great foil for you know who. Both he and Everitt looked promising last night.

Although he didn't dominate, Cooney looked to be running freely with pace. Big year coming up for him. Crossy looked like he needed the run and was bit rusty but serviceable nonetheless.

Welcome back to a fit Robert Murphy. Going to get better and better and will be like a new recruit this year for us. Brian Lake sure has Buddy's number. Another disciplined, competitive display from Brian.

Brodie Moles did his chances of elevation from the rookie list no harm. He is going to be a very handy back-up if we get injuries and could easily play the role Boyd, Cross and perhaps Picken currently play.

Finally before his critics jump on this board, it has to be said that the jury is still out on Jarryd Grant. Doesn't move like a footballer and appears to have little presence (or confidence). Still appears to be some way off challenging for a senior berth and I'll be interested to watch Liam Jones next week assuming he comes into the side. Having said that, there was nothing poor about his effort last night and he provided multiple leads throughout the match....most of which were ignored. Not sure if he mis-timed the leads or lead to the wrong spots but I personally would have liked to see our blokes honour his lead a bit more, particularly when the game was clearly won. They need to instill some confidence in him as last night he was fairly ineffectual apart from a handful of deft touches. With Barry Hall demanding so much attention last night, the scene was set for him to slip under the opposition guard. Unfortunately it just didn't happen for him.

Main 3 things that excite me are:

1. Most of our players seem to have had a great pre-season, which gives them the best chance to have a great year, i hate having key players missing chunks of the pre-season.

2. Hall. Pretty obvious he's not finished the way he moved. Its early days but he looks to be moving as well as 5 years ago & hasn't lost anything in the strength department!

3. Everitt. Just gives me the feeling he'll be a regular this year & will be a valuable player.

Downside--Grant, i hope he proves me wrong but he just doesn't give me the feel of a guy with football smarts & he's still way off getting an AFL ready body.

I'm excited too. Yeah, we all know NAB Cups can actually be a bad omen, but we should go for it!! All the talk was about the missing Hawks, (I think 6 was the agreed number from their best 22), but we didn't have a few I consider best 22, (Johnno, Minson as definites, Harbs with a quarter and a bit, and Wood & Reid as borderline), so the gap in the teams was not as wide as some suggest. Replace Addison, Grant and Moles (only 'cos he's a rookie) with Minson (Roughy can go forward) Johnno (for Grant) and Wood or Reid for Moles, and we will be stronger yet again! LOVE THE DEPTH!!!!

hooroo....

Good pre-season win..

One thing i kind of noticed is that we are now very Barry Hall focused, similar to the Fev situation when he was at Carlton. I hope it was only a debut night thing but there was times when entering the F50, players were in better position but we choose to kick it into the pack.

Also another mention, Hills marking was excellent besides the sitter in the first half.

I've never been so excited in my life. Barry Hall was just class. Did his job. I said be4 the game started ' I hope he kicks a bag of 6 ' . And look wat happened!? haha. Good on him. Moles was fantastic to watch. I've become a fan of his now after tonight. Shows alot of positive signs. I think its gonna be a big year for Murphy. He's 100% and looks fantastic. Cooney could be brownlow favourite again if he keeps his form up. Hudson is looking fantastic. Best ever. Rucked and roved well. I could go on with the list. The entire team was fantastic.

The only downfall i reakon was Eagleton, Grant and Picken. Eagleton fair enough because he just came back from injury and needs 2 gain confidence again. Grant had plenty of opportunities do show what he was made out of and didnt produce. Needs to lift his game and make the most of it durin the NAB Cup. Picken disposed the ball poorly and kept getting caught. Im sure it was a off night for him though. But if Picken was to go down a slump and hit bad form, moles would be my replacement straight away.

GO DOGS! 2010 is ours!

I'm excited for the club. That game on a Friday night with Hall starting like that is going to mean a lot more members for the Bulldogs which is a great thing. Otherwise was most excited about:

Cooney - looked sharp and explosive. seems he has that spark back which he lost due to injuries last year. Brownlow no.2 ???

Boyd - ready to go hard again this year. love his work and composure under fire.

Hall - could not stop smiling about BBB. Best thing of all was his chasing and contesting of the ball in the air. Only NAB cup but the confidence he will gain from that is worth 3 weeks of pre-season training.

Hargrave, Gia, Murphy, Cross, Higgins, Aker - all ready for big years again.

Obviously Hawks were missing a few players but we were also missing:

Minson
Johnson
Williams
Callan
Reid

Was surprised Mulligan didn't get a gig as we were still short a tall defender.

Oh yeah, and the best thing of all was NO INJURIES!

i cant describe it, but its just hillarious watching Big Bad Baz play for the dogs. I found myself cracking up whenever he went near the pill last nite.

whether its his "Silly Bald Head" and the "Meat-Head" look about him, and the way the "Dogs Faithful" rises as one whenever he goes near it, or whether its the fact that he is just one tough , aggressive bastard on the field who takes no crap, i just cant work it out, but its just sooo funny watching him play with all his antics !

cheers

Very impressive display by our boys. Their skills are just as good as ever, if not better.

Bazza - what can I say? He does look a bit strange in the red, white and blue but hopefully I'll get used to it very soon. ;) It was funny that Eade and co have been saying all along that Barry would be just part of the forward line and would fit into our structure, not expecting bags of goals etc, Aker, Johnno, Higgins, Gia etc would continue to be the forward options to score. But what happened? - When Baz was on the ground, everyone aimed for him! :D At last we have someone who can take a strong mark in a pack and kick all kinds of goals, snaps and set shots.

Josh Hill - I think he'll work well with Barry, as he's quick thinking and also a very good mark. Just needs to work on his conversion.

Harbrow - I thought he was great while he was on the ground. Some fantastic second and third efforts. Saw somewhere that he had a shin injury, was in the sub singlet.

Everitt - He's going to frustrate me if they persist with him. Needs lots of intensive coaching on how to get the ball and position himself. Same as J Grant, you just don't know if they are going to make it.

Aker - looked full of beans. Wonder how he feels about sharing the "character" limelight with Barry? The cameras will be tying themselves in knots going back and forth between the two.

Moles - Funny how some players just grab your attention straight away. Good luck to him, hope he gets a chance to be a regular.

Eagle - just back from injury, he'll get better.

Hudson - love him

Boyd, Cooney, Griffen, Gia, Murphy, Higgins - great game from all these.

Hargrave, Morris, Gilbee, Lake - not a lot to do, but they did it well.

Picken and Addison - love these guys but they've got some work ahead of them.

How long is since we got this far in a preseason cup?
