A refreshing change from everyone pumping up everyone's tyres all preseason haha

wow, id say typical salty vet defending his turf over a draft pick spent on the same position as him but even that seems out of line for this.

Wonder what's gone on here?

Thats usually done behind the scenes though, not through the press. Pretty unusual to hear in the is day and age, players usually trying to pump others up.

It does seem a different approach over there

Making rookies earn their stripes. Quite a hostile environment

“Larry didn’t talk to me my whole rookie year,” Humphries explained. “He said he was mad at me. He was like, ‘I was mad at you. You were a first rounder. We’re first rounders. We’ve got a responsibility when we come here and you let me down.'”

Humphries was taken aback.

“He told me to my face like that in my second year,” he said.

Fitzgerald let Humphries know there were expectations for him.

“‘We’re depending on you now,'” Humphries recalled Fitz telling him. “‘You let me down last year. I was mad at you.'”

It changed Humphries’ perspective. In his mind, he realized, “they’re really depending on me right here.” All he could say to Fitzgerald was, “OK, my bad, Larry.”

Not sure today's players respond to that sort feedback these days, seems an old school approach. Not saying it cant work, just that so many people get caught up in their feelings nowadays. Haven't seen it in ages.

Steve Smith used to do similar

I've started following quite a bit of American sport, plus coaches at junior levels on twitter. Various sports.

The general approach seems really old school. Coach who yells, is tough on the players, take a knee boys and listen to the coach talk for ages. Coach has all the technical know how and has to correct the players. That's how they were coached as kids and is the environment they were brought up in, so that's what they do. Michael Jordan being tough on team mates is how it's done.

Compare that to sport here and everything is game sense, less technical approach, no yelling, be a good team mate, more discovery learning, coaches create the environment for players to develop, player-centred learning, coaches ask questions rather than give answers so that players have to think for themselves, senior players are mentors for younger players.

Extremely different.

If you read some old cricket books about the 'bullying' way Chappell, Marsh, Lillee treated new players to the Australian set up (Kim Hughes, Graham Yallop) it is very similar to how things are in the USA now.

Think its more a team to team thing

The Panthers being a team full of young players for example you don't hear the vets ever bashing the younger players, always building them up in the press.

Rondale time, lets go

Christian Kirk is sidelined with a "minor deal," but coach Kliff Kingsbury hopes he is back "soon."
That was all Kingsbury volunteered after Kirk missed the past few practices. Coming off back-to-back rocky seasons following his promising rookie campaign, Kirk can't afford much missed practice time after the Cardinals signed A.J. Green and used a Day 2 pick on Rondale Moore. Kirk hasn't really developed an ADP this summer, typically going north of WR70. That sadly feels right for a player who once seemed destined for more.

Speaking Wednesday, coach Kliff Kingsbury said A.J. Green will miss some practice time with a "minor issue."
Kingsbury said he's going to keep injury news private this summer, stating he doesn't have to report on ailments until Week 1. So this is what we get. Kingsbury expects Green back "sooner than later," but it sounds like he's going to miss the rest of this week. Green's absence will allow guys like Andy Isabella and rookie Rondale Moore to get more work with the first-team offense with Christian Kirk also sidelined with a "minor" injury at the moment.

Cardinals partner with BetMGM to open first sportsbook inside an NFL stadium

Posted by Charean Williams on August 9, 2021, 6:57 PM EDT

The Cardinals announced Monday they have partnered with BetMGM to open a sportsbook at State Farm Stadium. It will become the first sportsbook inside an NFL stadium when it opens.

BetMGM announced it has targeted the 2022 NFL season.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to build upon our long-standing relationship with Gila River and launch a new one with BetMGM,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. “They are best-in-class partners whose excellence and expertise in this emerging space will provide a new and innovative way to engage and interact with our fans.”

Arizona allows professional sports venues to offer sports betting, and the Cardinals’ announcement follows the Phoenix Suns, who have a similar arrangement with FanDuel.

The NFL continues to embrace sports betting after years of opposing it in court. Since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against the NFL in 2018, striking down the federal statute that restricted regulated sports betting to primarily Nevada, 29 states and the District of Columbia have passed sports betting legislation.

Colt McCoy Makes Cameo At Kyler's Birthday Celebration

Coaches manage to pull prank on backup QB while getting starter 'present'

Aug 07, 2021 at 04:22 PM

It was Kyler Murray's birthday Saturday. And his coaches -- specifically QB coach Cam Turner and head coach Kliff Kingsbury -- had a great idea for a present.

And they could have some fun with their backup QB too.

Cameo is a new online service that allows celebrities and athletes of all types to offer phone video messages. For various prices, depending on the celebrity, you can get a friend or family member a personalized message. Cardinals backup QB Colt McCoy is on the service -- a message from him as of Saturday is $112 -- and so the plan was hatched.

Turner, using his mother-in-law's credit card and a burner email account reached out to McCoy for a birthday message for K1. He didn't say it was for Kyler Murray of course. McCoy was told the kid's name was "Buddy," and was a quarterback from Texas.

In their morning meetings Saturday, the QB room got to enjoy the show, which was captured on someone's phone and eventually, on Murray's IG account.

"I was sweating I was so embarrassed," Kingsbury said. "I knew it was coming but he didn't know."

At first McCoy wasn't doing it and they were running out of time, so Kingsbury said they had to pay "like double the fee" to get it done in time.

"It was quite a process," Kingsbury said. "We were stressing. (Colt) had no idea. (Cam) said the kid's name was Buddy. It was pretty genius. One of the best ones I've ever seen. But it was hard to keep it to ourselves all week, knowing it was going to happen."
