Cheers Sean. Looks like they might be a while away, and no guarantee to be on PS3 which I would be chasing. Also it seems like AC09 is getting some reasonable reviews so far, so I might hang out until they release the patch and see how that fairs.

I just played against an Indian guy and it was unplayable (he was from India). I was bowling and everything was smooth except when the ball was released it sort of froze then reappeared. Connection was lost after 3 overs but he probably (and rightfully) quit because batting would have been impossible. He was about 6/3.

I picked up the 360 version during my lunch break (found it hard to not get Madden 10 as well).

Correcting the names of all the non-Australians/English is a real pain in the arse, but other than that i'm really enjoying it.

I've not played an actual match yet, but i've gone through all the legends coaching for batting and am quite excited by the movement and fluidity of the batsmen.

After playing the PC demo for a week i was worried that the final version (albeit on 360) would have the same clunky, unnatural movement, but i was pleasantly surprised.

The running between the wickets is incredibly smooth (if a little quick), the movement of the batsmen in the crease is excellent whilst the range and fluidity of shotmaking is surprisingly superb.

I found the legends coaching for batting to be really easy so i'm guessing i'll have to crack it up to the hardest level (not sure what difficulty the legends coaching is) when i finally play a match.

I've obviously not gone deep into the game yet, but so far i'm rapt with it.

Picked up the 360 version today and it's great so far. There are a few issues though, which I'll touch on now:

  • Run outs are still far too common. Seems that fielders within the infield have a sniper-scope attached to their forearm. :(
  • This may just be me, but I feel that it's much easier to bat than bowl. If so, it makes the game unbalanced. You could notch up a really nice score, only to have the AI blast their way to victory in half the time because they find the gaps with incredible ease.
  • Achievement system seems to be bugged. I completed every training lesson and yet I only got one of the three achievements. :(
  • Some players have screwed up stats which don't really reflect their real life counterparts. This is a huge problem with the AUS/ENG players, since they can't be edited in any way. :(
  • Player editing is one of the most tedious things I've ever had to do in a video game. Does anyone have a list of players in each country's squad? I've found lists through Wikipedia and Cricinfo but they don't always contain full player names. :(
Other than these, I've really been enjoying it so far. Hopefully the upcoming patch addresses a few of these issues. :thumbsu:

Have you guys worked out a solid bowling pattern that's relatively successful ? Any tips for new players ? I'll probably pick it up over the weekend and just thought i'd ask.

Most cricket games (bar RPIC '07) had certain patterns where you could bowl and get wickets (some cheap, others by working hard). A few examples below:

Allan Borders Cricket - Keep bowling in the one spot (at the exposed wicket when the batter is batting), until they play defensively and either get an lbw, or the ball is hit to the keeper, slips or towards the 3rd man area (massive 6 attempt :p) only for the fieldsman to make the catch.

International Cricket (NES) - Fielders placed around the ground (should take a screenshot and display it in the future), one blocking an airborne straight drive 4/6 attempt, one blocking an airborne square cut, leg glance, and another diagonally to the batting stance of the person batting (when they hit it towards the fielder, makes for an easy stop and run out).

Brian Lara Cricket '95 - Change the camera view so the pitch is diagonal / / . Place the circle cursor so the circle just captures the exposed stump. When bowling be it fast or spin, the cpu ai would be bowled or lbw'd.

SWC '96 - Very easy to bowl out the cpu ai when the pitch was damp, bowl as though you'd bowl a bouncer, the ball couldn't be played (bounced too low) and you'd bowl them out. The cursor went back to the same style of Allan Border's Cricket.

Shane Warne Cricket '99 - was a hard one, had to be patient to get wickets (especially in test matches). My best chance was to hope for a cheap lbw. Failing that i'd let my bowlers leak runs, until the person at the creased, reached their average (which made it harder to bat... unless you controlled them and knew what to play and what not to).

Cricket 2000 - EA Sports tripe, as a spin bowler it was fairly routine. Place the bowling cursor around the wickets, or past the wickets and you'd get lbw or wickets easily (unless the umpire called a no ball, which was a common occurance).

Cricket 2005 - I didn't have much luck bowling them out, i'd tempt them with bad bowling in the hopes of getting catching chances. Which i did (particularly with airborne straight drives :p).

RPC '05 - Fairly straight forward, it was more random in terms of being able to get a wicket when you least expect it (well i found it to be like that).

RPIC '07 - I can admit i had NO luck with bowling people out, i preferred to play 10-20 over matches (at least then it didn't go forever).

You could bowl full and around leg stump and they'd go for a straight drive and get bowled. Or you could bowl slow bouncers on bowling pitches and get them either LBW or bowled. With spinner you could just bowl it really slowly with fielders around the bat and they've block it in the air.

You have to complete the batting and bowling challenges (Different to the training). No bug.

I had a go at online today, after all the raving reviews.

Then after I accepted my team and what have you, he sends me the same msg saying '2SLOW!!' in the subject.

WHAT.A.F*CKING.MUPPET!!

I have 1.5mb ADSL running and I had full bandwidth allocated to the PS3...

When i did get on, it was quite enjoyable, apart from my first 3 dismisalls being bowled outs because my batsmen played a hook shot instead of a leg glance... *sigh...*

But again, this game will be nice/playable when they fix up those hurendous bugs.

I got it yesterday and I'm yet too see the run out bug in the full game, it was there in the demo but nothing in the full game.

Did have a little bit of trouble containing the AI though, hopefully the patch will fix that though.

Enjoying it thoroughly though overall.

Will get the Wii version soon and see how that goes.

What console do you have it on Dez? PC? If so, want a game?

Also, are you on planetcricket.net forums as Dez too?

I wouldn't be worried about struggling to contain the AI as you only just got the game. You're expected to improve. It'd suck if we could contain them easily in our first play.

I wouldn't bother with the Wii version as it's a different game basically.

Same.

So far the running between wickets has been ultra smooth and realistic.

The fielders all have amazing arms, though, so any running on the throw is suicidal.

My only issue is that bowling is to easy.... I can get the computer out on hard for around 100-150 runs in 25-30 overs...I just stack the field on the off side with a fine leg and maybe a mid wicket and bowl outside the off stump....pitching up for a nick or dropping short for the miss timed cut shot... I have only knocked the stumps over once...
Batting is more of a challenge.. my highest team total on hard is 460 odd and individual score is 160... its easy once a player is settled but if you lapse in concentration you usually get out.... which is good...
once Ive completed most of the game... for enjoyment... ill generate the bowling innings... will probably give me a more realistic target to chase...
The game is far from perfect... But I wasnt expecting it to be...
Tried online a couple of times... the lay out is shit...lacking detail... should be able to at least see what country your opponent is from... being playing at like 12am so I think Ive mainly played poms and lag has been a factor...

anyone playing on the ps3 drop your names...

I'm still having troubles with the bowling. It's not that it's too hard, but the results aren't that realistic. I managed to bowl out India for about 120 but all the outs were either caught, stumped or run out. So far I've played 3 bowling innings in the game (including one test innings) and I've never had an LBW or bowled wicket. It's not just that, I don't even look like coming close to getting either. Even when bowling to the tail, I can't get close. I find it much more efficient to bowl wide of off stump for catches. While I still take wickets, you don't get that satisfaction of getting someone clean bowled.

Batting is fantastic though. I made it 60 overs through the first Ashes test and scored 402 runs with an average of about 7 RR. Phil Hughes top scored with 202, while Ponting was next best with 54. Batting during the start of the innings was really hard, I kept making too many risky shots and luckily had a few dropped catches. But I took time to build Hughes' confidence by defending and soon enough he was blasting Anderson for 6 every other over. Then, just as I had my own confidence up, England brought out the spinners. I was over-confident after Hughes' dominance and lost the entire middle order for about 10 runs. xD

Still have to manually edit them, but this list is almost perfect (apart from one missing Pakistani).

Thanks a lot mate! You've saved me a lot of trouble. :D:thumbsu:

Yeah i've probably bowled 4 or 5 innings in total.. but its not impossible... just really uncommon... I bowled KP with a inswinging yorker from Mitchell Johnson... was pitching up outside off and noticed he was playing pull shots??? put one a bit closer to the stumps and he did it again... next one I put on the stumps and clean bowled him:thumbsu:
