Well done Ash, you're a star.
Congratulations and reward for dedication, commitment and exceptional talent.
You're a great Aussie, and one for all kids to look up to

Yet another Aussie female sportsperson coming to the fore (pardon the pun!)

Hannah Green won her 1st major title at the LPGA Championship this morning at Hazeltine GC in the US.

The sovrign owners of adelaide are the kaurna people, so our language is kaurna.

You can't just tell other cultures what language to use.

Do you have a map of our how far their lands extend to? Fascinating culture.

I'm taking my son up to the Flinders Ranges for the first time soon. We are both looking forward to jumping on the Aboriginal cultural tour.

Id say given the sizes of the respective areas the Flinders rangers will likely be a different group.

Very handy.

23/06/19 Barty just won the title at Birmingham to become World #1 !!! What an incredible achievement, our first woman #1 since Goolagong-Cawley, and only the FIFTH Australian ever (Newcombe, Rafter, Hewitt).
"Ever" is only since 1973, when the current rankings system was introduced. There are several others who were the best in the world prior to that time. Rod Laver & Margaret Court are two who spring quickly to mind.

Nevertheless, she is our first female #1in 40+ years, and that is definitely worth celebrating!

Hewitt was #1 for 2 years. Newk's best years were before 1973. Goolagong-Cawley only held #1 for 2 weeks. Rafter's stay at the top was only 1 week, and that was largely due to a calendar glitch. There's every reason to hope that Barty could be our 1st or 2nd longest lasting #1 since 1973!

Not a fan of tennis. Good fun to play but mind numbing to watch. However, what a result for the young kid. Well done.
This is the point. Even if this is supposed to be a footy forum, this doesn’t mean we can’t applaud a champion athlete, particularly if they’re from our backyard.

I love playing tennis myself, but I hardly watch it on TV. Footy is the ultimate sport for me!

I can when you're trying to use English.

If you want to speak Kaurna go right ahead.

Its also sovereign not sovrign
You probably spell coober pedy coober pedy when it's kupa pity, yet still you lecture people about language.

You sound like Saint nick curios.

I read that they estimated the entire tribe was only 300 people. That's an incredibly small number for such a sparse area. Given their lands would have been quite productive I wonder if they had to defend against attacks from neighboring tribes which would have been impossible to do given the size of the region?

Well for people that speak that language it is...

We call them Athens and Rome not Ελλάς and Roma

We say the S on Paris, unlike the French.

Japan we call Japan not Nippon.

I get the point you're trying to make, but you're doing it in a method which is a poor example and is actually incorrect.

There is a Kaurna name and the english name (which is clearly inspired by the Kaurna name).

The thing is they lived in peace with their neighbours. Bred with neighbours, had big wedding receptions with neighbours, traded with neighbours.

Nothing like what white history has you think.

I'm a tennis coach, I do clinics after school at a range of different primary schools across Adelaide (mostly eastern suburbs and Adelaide Hills)

My students are all aged between 5 and 10 years old, we generally have a quiz question at the end of the lesson before they recieve a lolly. This week I asked "Can you name a famous tennis player?"

Not one child out of 50 students named Ash Barty, I was a little dissapointed but more dissapointed that they all knew who the bad boys of Australian Tennis were. Also we coach around the same number of girl students as we have boy students but the only female player named was Li Na.

""The thing that strikes me about Ash is that she's very humble. And she doesn't get caught up in the glamour of being on the world tour. She goes about her business in a fairly methodical sort of way.
And over the last two years she's really worked on her fitness. She's certainly stronger, she moves around the court faster. And I think that, with her improved maturity, has set her apart.""
Humility + class + dedication + methodical + grounded + elite fitness + maturity = Ash Barty, World #1
(#623 in 2016 !!)

Ash Barty is so Aussie she chucked a sickie to go to the cricket! What a legend!!
She isnt driving around a Lamborghini she's supporting other Aussie athletes in a different sport, can Temnis Australia declassify Tomic and Kyrigos from playing for us.... can they play nation-less?

The way her form is going at the momemt we must be hot favourites to take out the Fed Cup.
