So Fonseca thoughts. Clearly got talent, looks technically sound both wings. Made a LOT of UE’s; had 17 in the late stages of the first set (which only lasted 6 games). Very aggressive, went for his shots, got good weight of shot. Actually displayed some very sound net skills which is promising. Movement needs work, especially coming forward. Was exposed by the drop shot. Needs far more point patience, which goes against his ”likes to finish the point in 3 strokes” motto. Coming up against a seasoned pro, probably pulled the trigger in situations he may have already won the point in juniors

Was down 6-0, 3-0 and I didn’t think he’d win a game. Staged a comeback and actually got Molcan a bit nervous, who let out a massive shout when he broke for 5-3. Really hard to draw conclusions but there’s skill there, just at 16 it’s almost impossible to predict unless they are truly elite talent.

Watched Arthur Fils again, superb. This kid has got everything. I guess the questions I have left are what is his mental strength under duress (so far looks good but haven’t had those major hurdles yet), consistency, and just continued development. He has an excellent all round game, a fantastic heavy forehand and a great backhand, including beautiful down the line capabilities. Outstanding athlete, covers the court effortlessly and with real speed. Only faced one BP and saved it with an ace. Honestly, I couldn’t be more impressed. He’s going to go a long way. Some youngsters you watch and you’re like yep, they’ve got it. He has it. Faces Sinner next, super unlucky draw, but if Sinner is struggling physically, an upset is on the cards if Fils brings that same level of tennis.

Currently watching Murray/Zverev. First set took almost 80 minutes. Exceptionally high standard, a real treat. Pulling for Zverev but Murray looks a totally different player in 2023. Sacha should’ve won the first set, twice up a break, serving for it at 5-4, but Murray just hung in there.

That was a quality match, really high standard throughout. Zverev was the better player for mine, but lost. Served for the opening set, won the second 6-2, and had multiple break point chances early in the third as well as being two points from the win. But Murray hung in there and grinded out the win, such an incredible fighter. Despite the loss, hopefully Zverev can build off that.

Time for Lehecka/Rublev. A win here for Lehecka would be big, but regardless, a good showing in Doha and nice to back up the AO result. Early days but what a nice game he has, just so clean and brings the variety. Rublev come out smoking it too.
