Watched both semis. First one was a close contest but felt a bit flat. Bublik deserved to win for actually being quite disciplined all match. As for FAA, he is really quite mediocre. I’m done expecting anything from him. Such a rubbish BH and constant reluctance to come into net. Hard to fix such a flaw like that BH and the top players will always target it.

As for the second semi, Rune…that was pathetic. Got an early break, then lost the break from a mixture of poor play and good tennis by Coric. Slammed his racquet down after going down 0-40 (when 3-2 on serve). Then when he started to lose, he starts losing pace on his serve, calls for a MTO, then quits in the second set. Booed off the court lol. Not seeing the hype to be honest.
Rune is so mediocre, when hes good hes brilliant but that is quite rare, he will spend most of his career around 15-20 in rankings

FAA was an athletic freak.

He played so well down here in 2021(?) when he made the semis.

You would be crushed if you were a Candian tennis fan. You have Bouchard, FAA, Sharpo, Andreescu and Fernandez, all making a semi-final run in the last 10 years or so. Only one slam between them and all well outside the top 20.

Add Raonic as well.

Looking at the matches for this week and interesting match up at Dallas. Jordan Thompson playing some guy called Adam Neff. You can get $20 for him H2H. Looking at his record he is 22 and played about a dozen futures matches last year, current ranking of 829. In those middle Eastern tournaments you will often get wildcards from Qatar or wherever at massive odds but it is strange to see that in the US. I guess he must be a leading player at a Texas college or something to be able to wrangle a wild card like that.

3 250 tournaments this week. First clay of the season in Cordoba. I like the field in Marseille. Dallas has a lot of Americans as you’d expect but also has 5 Australians. My winner predictions are Etcheverry, Mannarino and Hurkacz.

Just a curious observation, when would you think ATP will be challenged by a LIV style tennis federation in the future?
It’s actually perfect for Tennis tbh. The strict lack of funding for the top 100 is insane. Rank top 10 in the world, yeah the money is solid. The bottom 50 of the 100 still struggle.
Can see Kyrgios to be the poster boy. He’s done with the tennis tour, and if he gets a chance to sign millions would take if.

Think ATP need that shake up tbh.

Great chance for Purcell to get free points. Two rounds of qualifiers then potentially Tiafoe.

Struggled through his first round win with blisters apparently.

Crazy final in Cordoba; what an opportunity for both guys.

Paul beating Shelton so convincingly was surprising. Mannarino losing so easily was also a bit of a shock.

Dimitrov/Khachanov seemed like a brilliant match judging by the highlights. Humbert beat Hurkacz to thrill the home crowd. Could be an interesting final.

Greikspoor vs Musetti was a great match this morning :fire:

Musetti overachieved considering it was indoors, and Griekspoor was clutch with some ballsy serves and hits in the last set.
That would’ve been a good one.

I just finished watching Goffin vs Prizmic. Prizmic is a great talent, and I’m sure he’s going to achieve some great things. Defends so well, and offensively can generate a lot of pace from both wings. Beautiful technique on the BH especially, FH a little inconsistent at this stage. Serve needs major work, and although his conditioning seemed great in Melbourne (although did he take an early MTO in that one, thigh?), he was cooked in the third set after winning the second set after a 25 minute TB.

Would like to see him at more tour events this year because he’ll win quite a few matches with the level he produced here. Goffin typically annoying, just hung around, got an extra ball back, and wore him down.

Death taxes and Alcaraz playing clay in February.
Watching his QF now to see what shape he‘s in. I like that he plays 250 events in South America, good for the sport.

Watched Dimitrov/Shevchenko in Rotterdam, was a good match. Super close until Dimitrov broke to love to win the match. Really targeted the FH and broke it down late. Watched Rublev/ADM also, good win for Alex but I’ll be going for Grigor in that one.

Didn’t watch it but Raonic had to retire, again. Cmon man. Sinner advances after a tough battle to that point.

Feels like he uses the humid heat in South America for fitness. Cheap points on offer though. Big reason why he cracked top 30 by June/July a few years ago.

The mini career revival by Dimitrov is fun to watch. His backhand is lethal

Alcaraz goes down in straight sets to Jarry!
Just finished watching. Wow.

First set was a bit uninspiring, both players untroubled on serve and no real rallies. Jarry got on a roll in the TB.

Second set though was outstanding tennis, top drawer. Some of the rallies were classics. Jarry played amazing, served huge, hit the forehand massive, great at net, some awesome drop shots. Masterclass. Carlos fought hard but his level is so far off his peak level, not sure what’s happening to him. Cincy cooked him but you think he would’ve reset by now.
