JAMES MICHAEL COMPLETES FAIRYTALE
SOME players wait a fair time to collect their first ATP Tour title, and very few win an ATP 500 competition for many years. But for Australian wildcard James Michael, he won the five matches required to earn 500 points and shoot up to a remarkable 118th in the world.
In the final he downed top 30 player, Croatian Ivo Karlovic in straight sets. James Michael won 6-2 6-3 in a rout to claim the title and the 500 ranking points having also defeated Spainard Tommy Robredo and Australian Peter Williams earlier in the tournament.
FINAL:
[4] Ivo Karlovic (CRO) defeated by James Michael (AUS) (WC) 6-2 6-3
