Swiatek in all sorts of trouble against Gauff. Just managing to hold her serve. Gauff has definitely improved in all areas of her game. Good move in changing coaches. It looks like Gauff has worked out how to play Swiatek. Even Sabalenka is in trouble against her opponent. Iga needs to relax. I'm really liking Swiatek without her psychologist for this event.

Big chance for our junior world no.1 Emerson Jones to pick up her first ever WTA Tour win in Adelaide tomorrow morning when she faces Chinese qualifier Xinyu Wang. Real chance to make strides with her ranking and build some momentum before the AO if she can pick up a win or two this week.

Yes agreed but I watched Wang today and she was very good, hitting winners galore. Will be a tough match, I would back Wang for sure.

So would I. Emerson is definitely the underdog. Just pointing out that it's a big opportunity for her. Especially considering she's only 16 years old.

Swiatek's injury happened perhaps against GB. Gauff has worked out how to play Iga and Iga is not happy. Hopefully her new coach can help her out. Plus she wanted it too much and her anxiety and nerves kicked in. The one thing I like about the Polish team is Nicolas Massur loving him on the bench and being involved and the female junior player who has being encouraging Iga throughout her match.

Wasn't sure where to ask this question but was planning to head to the AO with a ground pass for evening session on the first Monday evening. Just checking are there likely to still be games on the outside courts in the evening?
100%. Probably less now with the Sunday start, but you should still have the choice of quite a few matches.

Just Be VERY careful looking at juniors. Tomic was this great white hope junior no1 too. A lot of these female junior no1’s have done very little lately, probably the only one that may realise her potential is Andreeva, Coco might have forget if she was no1 in juniors though (not really a fan of hers so I forget). There’s been some weird junior world no1’s lol. There are some young girls coming but I have zero expectations as frankly the development is horrific, the lack of funding is a huge problem whereas in Europe and US they have big academies eg. Bolleteri academy in Florida is one (one taht a few have come from incl Sharapova). The test will be how to nurture the talent, weirdly their best hope is to not use the Australian system but go to Europe develop their game over there in a European tennis academy or in the States
Probably a good time to revisit this comment after Emerson Jones pulled off a massive upset by defeating the world number 37 in Adelaide today. We don't need to look at her junior results anymore - she proved today that she can do it against top 50 WTA players and is only 16 years old! This comes on the heels of 18 year old Maya Joint's impressive performances in Brisbane last week. Both will make their Australian Open main draw debut next week.

I think it's fair to say that the future looks bright for our female tennis players.

Not that big an upset on form her opponent was terrible the match prior (actually laughable she’s somehow ranked 37) is prone to these matches, complete ball basher. She’s Yastremska without a brain really and that’s not a good thing! I’ve learnt long ago to not trust juniors they are a very average guide. There was a junior girl a few years back dominating juniors Russian girl (pretty sure was European) and she has been awful at the next level. Does she have talent yeah but she’ll only be the player Australia wants her to be if she trains and develops overseas. The training and resources are better there they just are.
