Hockey gets $7m from the ASC for high performance each year*, based on the expectation that our national teams will bring home 2 medals every four years. Saying they haven't underachieved is BS.

*swimming gets $11m, I'll post a comprehensive taxpayer$ per medal list at Games' end.

It just aggravates me to watch these hockey medal finals knowing we have maintained our proud heritage of choking in this sport… especially, when it has been such an outstanding campaign overall.

Rugby sevens yes. Poor result should have hit the silver minimum. The rest though hardly underachieved. Went exactly as expected. Boomers never as good as the ones left plus Canada, Matilda’s lost their only elite player before the tournament in Kerr. Hockey teams did well both will be better in 4 years so young. Womens waterpolo a huge chance

The men's water polo team performed well above expectations in what is probably the toughest competition in the whole Olympics. The last 8 teams left were incredibly even and anybody could have won.

With a poor coach in the end though everyone went OTT on the WC result it was great but were smacked when it counted anyway.

Completely agree. I never expected us to be remotely in that game. Nevertheless, the capitulation was frustrating.

Japanese game meant squat we were always coming second. Look sure we had a lead but waterpolo is a weird sport where leads can come and go, usually pretty close

Proper volleyball (like handball) does.

Beach Volleyball is more like tennis doubles.

We will happily take minor medals now. Most of our gold hopes are done except for a few like Mackenzie Little in the Javelin.

Most of the other divers have nailed it too, I guess it's the final so it's the best of the best.
