Re: ben graham

I just wish the Steelers pounced before the Jets. BG will be a relevation and this article is proof he'll be a success. Pencil him in for the Pro-Bowl right now. Bennett was a revelation when he started and is still going. Chance for a SB ring if the 'Sota get thier act together. Dare I say Jets v Vikes SB. ;)

Re: ben graham

Had a look at the Gang Green messageboard, by geez they're in raptures. Punted 3 times today for an average of 54.7 yards, apparently he also held for the kicker which was a lot of their fans biggest queries on him. Looks like he has virtually got the job.

Yep 99% of jets fans love him, and given that its only a punting role.. its getting alot of press over there!!! But i guess thats what you get for having 20 years of crap punters....

I also wish the Broncos had looked at him closer, Knor the guy who is in battle with graham for the job was the Broncos punter last year.... So we were in need of a decent Punter aswell... and it would've been awesome to have an Aussie in the team.

uh well, im pretty sure he will get the job, holding the kicks for FG and punting... but what he needs to do is just keep it going through pre-season.
The other two punters only got 1 kick and Graham got 3 (i think) so that stat alone tells you that the coaches are pretty keen to give the guy a go!!

If he gets the job, i wouldnt be suprised if he plays in the Superbowl.. the Jets look good this year if the 3 top players can stay healthy, they SHOULD atleast get to the play-offs.

Re: ben graham

Yeah about 2 weeks ago there was an article I accessed through yahoo! sports... not sure of the source... but its was quite long - about ben graham and his success. It did conceed that the competition was about even.

But over there its all about hype so im sure he will pull through

bugger about rex grossman... not that i factored chicago into anything but I wanted to see the guy get a chance.

Re: ben graham

Yeah, a lot of fans and media are really impressed by him considering their punter last year was really bad so Graham would be considered an improvement. The only thing holding him back is kicking deep in opponents territory.
Get this: This friday night (well Saturday morning in Australia) the Jets will play Minnesota. That's right! Graham and Darren Bennett will be in the same game. It will also a nationally televised game in the US.

Re: ben graham

Yeh geelong would love to have him.

He played the Minnesota Vikings today (who's punter is Australian Darren Bennett)

Stats:

B. Graham

Punts - 6
Average - 39.3 Yards
Inside 20 - 2
Longest - 50 Yards

M. Knorr (who he is in battle with, for those who dont know..)

Punts - 3
Average - 39.0 Yards
Inside 20 - 0
Longest 41 Yards (lol..)
----

Laughable when you compare the two, Grahams average is only low because he had two kicks inside the other teams 20, Knorr didnt have any... and is still only .3 over Grahams average, Also i hear that there were 2 fumbles off Grahams punts....

If he doesnt get the job.. theres somthing going on.

Re: ben graham

Thats an average,

Remember he landed two punts inside the other teams 20, so that means he would have been punting from say the 50 yard line, which is why he didnt want to kick 60yards... he needed to pin them back closest to their goal line...

This makes the average go down, the true indication is reall the longest punt... 50 yards isnt he's best... but is "average"

Lol, ive just realised how hard it is too explain Gridiron.. haha, well i know what im talking about.

Re: ben graham

Here's some quotes from Jets fans

I was moving around at the game last night and sat in the end zone in the fourth quarter. You cannot appreciate what this guy is doing until you sit in the end zone. He had that series of three punts and the first one, just before it came down, it curved from one hashmark to the other. The guy behind me said "he's been doing that all game." Then he hit two other monster shots (due to penalties) and the crowd gave him a big hand as he was coming off. First of all, the Vikings botched one or two punts yesterday and now I know why. Graham's punts are impossible to handle. The fact that he's a lefty also plays in becuase the ball comes down backwards and returners aren't used to that. I also suspect Graham should be a weapon as a running threat and I'd hope to see that at least a couple times this year. He's a beast (6-5, 230) and obviously, he's used to breaking tackles. Anyway, I am thrilled we've got this guy.

I thought this guy had an outside chance at best of making the team. Now I would not be surprised if Knorr is cut next week.

i have to admit, terry ahs done an OUTSTANDING job improving our special teams which has been a heel for years.

we took 2 special teamers in the second round and now ave a stud kicker and returner. graham is pure gold, and the safties we took late both are hitters who will excel on special teams coverage.

im not sure how wel we do this year, but we WONT lose games because of special teams

If Ben Graham doesn't make this team, I think I will flatout explode

And I think I speak for the overwhelming majority of Jets fans ... that would really light a fuse on this board

Graham has an absolute cannon ... and he puts a wicked spin on that ball

Those two elements make him "SPECIAL"

If it's my call he has more than a chance to make this team ... he's a mortal lock

And I know the Game a little bit ... so I think that means he has a VERY GOOD CHANCE

The first quotes are from http://www.nj.com/forums/jets/

Last is from a thread on JetsInsider (good Jets site) :Punters didnt look sharp tonight

Ease up mate, just giving my opinion. NFL is a terrible sport at the best of times.

So why come into an NFL Forum and say that?

Did you think that people who post in here hate the sport too?

You were just asking for trouble, so take what you're given.

Because I saw 'Ben Graham' and I thought this may be interesting. Then I remembered that he gave up a chance to win a flag with the Cats, in the sport he had been playing for a decade, to play in the NFL. People that post here are obviously desperate for anything close to a sport.

Re: ben graham

Yeah, the cats look like there on the road to winning a flag...

He has more chance of winning the Superbowl with the Jets (most watched annual sporting event in the world) than winning an AFL premiership with Geelong.

Each to their own.
