Yeah, the cats look like there on the road to winning a flag...

He has more chance of winning the Superbowl with the Jets (most watched annual sporting event in the world) than winning an AFL premiership with Geelong.

Each to their own.
At the start of the year they were almost favourites for the flag. And with Graham, they would be in a better position than they are in now.

Each to their own.

Then ******** off then!

In response to the earlier query on whether 39 yards is good, its hard to judge from the stats. They should really have stats on hangtime (time in the air) as well, because the higher the ball, the longer the defenders have to get position. Obviously Benny could roost it 65-70+ yards, but if its returned 25 then its only as good as a non-returned 40 yard kick...

Ease up mate, just giving my opinion. NFL is a terrible sport at the best of times.

And ignorance is your shame. don't come around here no more.

People that post here are obviously desperate for anything close to a sport.

Nice way to rationalise the fact that you fail to appreciate a sport that millions of people love. Obviously the fault is with them, not you. If someone likes a food you don't like, do you put that down to them being desperate, or are you only such a stupid git when it comes to sport?

Thanks for the entertainment people, thoroughly enjoying it. A sport that millions of people love, are you talking about millions as in Americans? Keep the good times coming.

I see many people who love the sport when im down playing it on the weekends in AUSTRALIA, Also people in Canada seem to like it, as did the people in Japan who turned out in their thousands to watch a preseason game not too long ago.

Can't be too bad a game.

Fair enough, but all I said was that I dont respect Graham for his decision to leave the AFL for the NFL.

Yeeeeahh..... but saying you dont respect Grahams decision to leave the AFL for the NFL wasnt all you said you criticised the sport in general which, on a forum dedicated to that particular sport is not very smart...
as follows..

I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR GRAHAM, OR THE NFL. Left probably the best sport in the world for one of the worst.

Hasn't this brought out some colourful opinions?

And yes, it did bring out some colourful opinions, but thats what you get when people feel passionate about a certain sport...

Anyway its good to see we entertained you. :p

Feel free to come back and discuss what a great game American Football is. ;)
For now though, im off too bed, Night.

Re: ben graham

Fantastic to read the quotes from the Jets fans who rate him. He has taken a real gamble and it looks like it will pay off for him.

Read an article last week from a New York sports journo trying to describe Graham's punts: "It spins up and backwards on to itself. A very interesting style and the opposition are having a tough time catching it."

Sounds like a good ol' Aussie drop punt ;)

On ya Ben.

Re: ben graham

I think it is great that Ben is doing well over there for the Jets. I went to High School and Uni with Ben and he was always a massive kick of the footy. He would boot the ball over our heads at lunchtime and recess when the girls came out to watch. We had to jump the fence into Safeway half the time to get the ball.

The Cats are probably a couple of years away from winning a flag if at all and Ben has a young family, will be 32 soon so it was a good time for him to go and prolong a professional sport career.

Re: ben graham

haha, very entertaining indeed.

I have to say well done to Drummond... done a good job to get under everyones skin there. Each to their own, frankly I couldnt care less about some random individual making pointless comments!

But since you want to critisize... i'll return the favour.

How can Australian Rules be the best sport? A sport with too many rules, too much politics, a system that encourages teams to lose for priority picks, that allows abuse to the officials, that doesnt have clearly defined rules...etc

Dont get me wrong, I play football and follow it... but im just looking at it open minded unlike other freaks.

Yeah, I blame Adrian Anderson and Andy D for the spiriling down of Aussie rules. I use to brag to my Yanky mates that Aussie rules was tougher and faster then NFL but now, it is becoming netball. That is for another forum though.

Re: ben graham

i'd luv him to make it into the NFL as he took a chance on something and it might pay off. Good on him for making an effort. :D

If you just sit down and watch an actual game of AFL, I believe it is the best sport. Forget the off-field issues (politics) such as finals venues and tribunal verdicts and just concentrate on the skill and pressure that is involved in the sport. For someone that 'follows the game', you sure do find some of the worst things to pick on, such as 'abuse to the officials'. The umpires deserve what they get, and quite frankly I'm sick of people comparing the treatment NRL players give to their officials.

And Camsmith, thousands of people turn out for international sports, such as the end of season AFL game played annually in England. I'm just pointing out the majority.

Feel free to come back and discuss what a great game American Football is.
Why would I want to do that? It's not like your great and mighty opinions forced me to change my views.

They deserve it you say... its a game, they are human and its a matter of interpretation. Its not a desirable position to be in but they do it and someone has to. Get a life... that is what is so wrong about the game.
Officials are respected in all the elite sports.... ie. Soccer... Rugby... Gridiron... even Basketball and Baseball.

haha.. but if thats the way you view life, good on ya! haha

As I said, I knew people would bring up the way Rugby players treated their officials. Aren't they just model citizens

Umpires are respected in all the elite sports, even Basketball you say? Is this why recently one of the elite coaches in the NBA was fined huge amounts due to comments he made about the officials? NBA Commissioner David Stern was contemplating suspending this particular coach for his outbursts. Is this the respect you were talking about

Well thanks for that argument. I had not heard of it but as you say...

In the AFL this is a weekly occurance however the suggestion of suspending them is heavily critisised as abusing and undermining other people is seen as ok in the AFL. Its a joke.

and basketball is much much much larger than australian football in terms of participation and leagues... its everywhere...and to pick one 'rare' occurance is a great point

Its hard to forget the off-field issues when the games is played to the storylines that are built up by the clubs and media. its just one big circus at the moment, dissappointing to see the game go down this path.

Why should I not pick this occurance when it completely destroys your argument?

Games are played out due to storylines that are built up by the clubs and media? What are you talking about? One big circus, the only thing I expect to see at a circus is you dressed as a clown.

your a joke mate, haha.

enjoy your final weeks of AFL... I know I will, go the Saints. the NFL is just around the corner if you want to stay and get involved :p

Re: ben graham

Ben's playing again today against the Giants.

First punt for 49 yards - and another muffed catch

Second punt, backed up on his own 8 with 30 seconds left in the half - 41 yards and OOB at the 49.

He's got the job.

Re: ben graham

Ben's final stats

6 punts, 42.8yd avg, longest 49

Significant for him, no major returns on any of his punts, and a couple of more muffed catches (and one fair catch) from his "helicopter" kicks.

If the Jets are stupid enough to cut him he's put up numbers that will attract interest elsewhere.
