Looking back, American pronuciations were always going to slip in. Vast majority of native English speakers live there and they've spent generations successfully exporting their voluminous culture.

This is only going to get worse as we get the generations coming up that wouldn't know what to do with a book even if you held a gun to their heads.
 
How’s reading a book going to change your accent? Books are just as big in school as they have been previously.

But do agree accents will meld somewhat simply because of easy access and shared media across the world. Language always evolves and you don’t have to go back far. A regular Aussie would have sounded pretty different just 50 years ago.

Way the kid on the bike says "rotten egg" is how an elderly Australian would say it in 2018.
