The best compromise is one where every party is unhappy.
So no southern cross, no federation star, no wattle,no red, yellow, black, green, gold, blue, white or red.
No stars period in fact, too hard for kids to draw.

Go at it!
I dunno:

Look, I've read all the arguments against the Abroginal flag being used.

HOWEVER, it doesn't have to be used as the national flag JUST because it is the Aboriginal flag.
Design-wise, it is our perfect flag IMO. The sky, the sand, the sun. Everything that's naturally great about our country. Change the black to obsidian, the red to ochre???

Can't do it for 2 reasons;

1) Flags designer does not want it as the national flag (would include recolours)

2) Flag design wise the colours yellow and ochre could not be placed next to each other as they would both be classified as metallic colours (both would be classed as gold) which should always be separated by a colour.

Right, okay. Well there goes that idea. Hah.. Thanks :thumbsu:

My attempt at a city of Melbourne Flag

Red White and Navy of the Melbourne Cricket Club (I didn't want to use the state colours, and just red and white didn't feel right for Melbourne)
Diagonal white line representing the Yarra as it it central to the city, dividing north and south - hence red to the north and blue to the south.
Federation Star in the middle signifying the city as the nation's first capital.

Melbourne City FC will need another rebrand!

Hey all. I know this isnt exactly football related or anything, but it is a graphic design. I came across this and Im sure some of you have too. Nearly every year we have someone come up with a new design for the Australian flag, but this year we have a doctor who has designed something and from the sounds of it, he almosts expects it to be used in the future.
The red boomerang is meant to represent the Union flag with the federation star including 250 dots that represent the many languages spoken by the Aboriginals and Islanders. The fact that the star intersects the red and black is a nod to the Aboriginal flag. The Southern Cross is in green and gold because of the modern sporting colours

Personally, I realy dislike it. To me its an eyesore. But what do you guys think? And what would you have if not our current one?
The dr should stick to being a doctor and stop demeaning the graphic design profession.

This is a great design. Anything that gets rid of the Union Jack.

Coming from the NT originally, I absolutely love our flag. This is just a recolouring of the NT flag because I don't quite have the photoshop skill to put in the wattle design from a few pages back, but it's pretty simple and keeps both the Southern Cross and a symbol representing the 6 states and the territories.[/QUO

Haha NT represent!!!

When we change I hope we go down the route of creating something that is instantly recognisable as the flag of Australia.

Show someone the flag of Canada and they know exactly what it is. Likewise Brasil or the US or a few others.

Show them Ghana, Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau and most people won't know which is which. Ask them which order the stripes are on the flags of Russia, Netherlands and Luzembourg and they will umm and ahh.

I really like the RAAF roundel. Not sure on the colours but something like that could be simple and instantly recognisable.

That's an interesting (in a good way) element to consider.

I've (very roughly) mocked up this design. I took out the kangaroo (that got shunned a little while back) and simply whacked a recoloured version of it in the middle. It's a pretty easy design to sell as well. I can just imagine whoever the prime minister is "the circles represent a lot of things: our inclusiveness of other cultures, our isolation geographically from the rest of the world, the radiant sun, even the golden wattle etc." Personally, I think it looks quite good, it's only drawback being the slight resemblance to the Japanese flag.

But to include the kangaroo would make it a recoloured RAAF logo, which could pass off the wrong idea of being a military run country. But I do like the idea behind having a roundel that is similar.

Out of curiosity, can you mock it up with the same colours of the current flag or even with a green field, gold ring and white inner circle?
