Australian team for Hong Kong sixes tournament announced
MEDIA RELEASE
30 September 2005

Cricket Australia has selected a group of emerging players to represent Australia in the annual Hong Kong sixes tournament.

Tim Nielsen, Head Coach of the Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence and former South Australian player, will captain/coach the team during the two-day tournament that starts on Saturday 22 October 2005.

The team is:

Tim Nielsen (Capt / Coach) Commonwealth Bank Centre of Excellence
Dane Anderson (TAS)
Liam Buchanan (VIC)
Beau Casson (WA)
Daniel Christian (NSW)
Nathan Reardon (QLD)
Ken Skewes (SA)

Geoff Allardice (Manager) (Cricket Australia)

The eight competing teams have been drawn into two Pools for the first, round robin stage of the tournament:

Pool 1: England, Sri Lanka, Australia, Hong Kong
Pool 2: Pakistan, South Africa, India, West Indies

Australia’s qualifying matches will be against England, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, with a final series to be played by the top two teams from each Pool.

This is always exciting cricket from what I have read about in the past, but standard is not always the best because can't always get the best players from each country.

Super Series and international games would wreak havoc on having the best players available.

Only player of note there is Beau Casson, the heir apparent to my hero in one GB Hogg.

Skewes did represent the Australian u19s though.

Do I remember correctly that about 6 years ago Symmonds and others played in this tournement?

Is this on Fox or any tv?

Liam Buchanan from the Vics... not too bad a player. Also Amon Buchanan's brother. Some decent talent in that family!

Yep, has been knocking on the door of Victoria selection for quite a few years now and won't forget hearing about his almost run a ball double ton in Premier Cricket a year or so ago.

The Tassie guy didn't fare much better. Tried a Ryan Campbell flick over the head and trod on his stumps (?) everyone went back into position before they noticed a bail on the ground so surely it wasn't bowled....
