The less fit you are the worse your general field kicking even over short distances.

But at the same time Tucker and Scott are sposed to be two of our fittest players.

Agree, but our basic skill errors start early and continue through the entire game.
We must be on world record pace for 15 to 20 metre chip kicks marked by opposition players.

It wouldn’t be a significant variation in out put. These skill errors occur immediately after half time? Theres no excuses for it.

Oh man I agree. It was shocking.

Kinda what I wished for a few weeks ago with LDU.

He tended to be either 10 votes or 0. This year he's worked his way into midway votes more.

Xerri gets a lot of coaches vote love. Interested if it's Clarkson ticking off his games each time or if opp coaches are rating him.

Looks like 4-1 for Xerri
3-4 for LDU

Yesterday, for the first time, I could see a coherence coming into our structure. At the game, I got frustrated when the Bombers got a run on and I struggled to see the wood for the trees. On reflection, we were unlucky to go in at halftime behind. It was our first competitive second quarter in recent memory. Getting that big ugly fullback in place may be the first true stepping stone into a successful future. Sheez, LDU, Powell and Wardlaw are beginning to click. I can’t help but think that yesterday’s game was tailor made for McKercher. What a pity. Bergman was a letdown in the end. However, he was looking good until that missed kick.

We played our gameplan for 4 qtrs yesterday. Our structure also held up and you could see the players working hard to recover their position right until the end.

40 point margin was down to execution and inexperience where in certain contests the bombers were too big and strong for some of our players.

Have no doubt we are on the right track. Just hope we can get these injuries under wraps as each game guys get injured is a small setback to their development.

Really good post.

3rd quarter was pretty even but we butchered the ball a fair bit. That was the game essentially.

Can you imagine leading to Scott and constantly watching the ball sail over your head to your opponent.

Must be disheartening and you wonder how many of our players go half hearted when he has the ball knowing he will just butcher the kick anyway?
We should have 3 players lead up each time he has the ball - he is bound to hit one of them.

There’s absolutely no trust in his disposal.

Does Baileu Scott need to work on his field kicking? Absolutely. It's not all doom and gloom though. Fox Footy's On The Couc Last night, a piece of vision, where a chain of hand balls on the wing, Wardlaw slapped the ball over his head. BS involved with a hand ball and then had the last kick, inside 50 and hit up Curtis Taylor. Taylor goes back and kicks the goal. Just shows you that even if we agree it's an area that Bailey needs to work on, he has shown he can hit short kicks. I wouldn't be writing him off, yet!

This is an amazing effort from X to lead our tackling counts for 2024. What is really sad however is that the other 17 clubs have midfielders/taggers leading their clubs averages.

Tristan Xerri

Total tackles: 167
Ave per game, career: 3.88
Ave per game, 2024: 7.40
Ave per game, 2023: 2.89
Most in a game: 11

So the coaches need to make this priority and get our tackling sorted. Start with actually sticking a tackle and not just laying hands on a body. When X or George lay one, the opposition knows they have been tackled. We have too many turn stiles in our team atm.

just watched the replay of zurhaars hospital handball to wardlaw in the last quarter (11:05 mins to go if anyone wanted to watch it). it’s even worse on replay, should of let pink go back and kick it. called for the ball back with 3 * defenders around him. saw the oncoming pressure and didn’t want a bar of any physicality soo dished it off to wardlaw who was in a worse spot then he was.

Thank god Sheez has signed for 7 years becasue I swear the older blokes are trying to break him, two bits of play stand out.

1. He wins a contested ball, spins towards the centre and hits Scott with a low pass that Scott slides into to take on his chest. Bounces off and Sheez has to go back and win it, again and cops a high tackle for his troubles.

2. After several fumbles and mis placed kicks/handballs LDU tries to "calm" the situation with a pop kick to Sheez that invites Peter Wright to cannon into his back.

Give the kid a break!

yerh i remember that kick on saturday, couldn’t of picked a worse spot on the field for a slow high arching kick.

I think we are definitely on an improvement curve right now. After the bye, I foresee us getting to that stage where the likes of Scott and Tucker will become more palatable. They’ll still drive us up the wall with their hit and miss disposal. However, their value in running out games will be crucial going forward. Scott will remain. However, Tucker will, most likely, be supplanted somewhere along the way.
