Noting that Pies lost an important structural player five minutes in, which evened things up a little. But yeah, Western played much better and kept it much closer than I or most people expected they would. I don’t expect Collingwood to be world beaters this season but they are a very solid well coached side with a lot of experience and the Dogs are a better side this week and last week than you’d expect on paper.

It's fair to say when we cracked in and applied ourselves, we were on par or slightly better than the undermanned Bulldogs. But, as has been the case for years, we straight up refused to apply ourselves for a quarter and a half, where in that time they looked a ten goal better side than us.

That's all we can take out of the game IMO. The end score difference means nothing, as does their game against Collingwood. We were as bad as I've ever seen us for large parts of that game, regardless of if you square this then divide that then multiply Collingwood by Footscray's differential we were actually better than we thought, kinda stuff.

It's up to the boys to grow up and start playing like an AFL side.

Go back a few years and this board was absolutely confident we'd outpace both Hawks and Crows in their rebuilds. Now it's "ah can't compare em, they started off with more to work with".

We thought we had the secret sauce, unfortunately that sauce was brown and not of the chocolate variety.

I feel like we've seen that movie a lot over the past few years. North starts poorly and lets the opposition get away to an early lead. North then buckles down and has the game back to a competitive position and then, when the game is, in the cr up for grabs in the critical 5 to 10 minutes that will likely determine the outcome, North switches off completely and in the blink of an eye the game is gone.

To come out after 3 quarter time last week and allow the Bulldogs to pile on 3 goals in 3 minutes was just rubbish. Nothing to do with talent and everything to do with attitude. Did Clarko get the message wrong at 3/4 time or did the players just ignore what was said?

We just didn’t put enough pressure on the Dogs.

The Pies swarmed on their best users and kept the exits covered. We don't do that very well as shown in the first quarter.
