i tend to agree with sheehan. i saw him get caught out in the last quarter trying to get onto his left foot. put it this way i would be spewing if carlton picked him in the draft. plenty of better prospects in this draft than bachar.

Re: Bachar Houli!

Read the article on him and seems like a great kid.... hope he gets picked up ...good for a melbourne club trying to get lebanese members :D isay that with a smile but look what Kennelly did for the Swans with many new irish members.

Plenty of good players can't use their opposite foot and it can be worked on when at AFL level. Didak, Dal Santo and X Ellis don't have opposite feet.

As far as midfielders go, he would be up there. Gibbs and Selwood seem to be the best midfielders with Houli, Proud and Hislop all showing their worth as probably mid to late first round selections.

Mojo had Houli at #11

Re: Bachar Houli!

25 possesions, 2 goals for Houli today - not too shabby I wouldn't have thought.

well he wont go to to the blues if mojo had him at 11. thank-god for that.

Re: Bachar Houli!

Mojo would be turning in his (metaphoric) grave if he heard you guys talking like this....those rankings were only meant to be used as a rough guide PRE-CHAMPS, and taking other things into consideration like injuries, etc...

I think he regrets putting numbers on them so early if they were to be used as gospel and not a rough guide before watching the champs. I dare say even the great mojo has shuffled his own rankings around a bit by now.

:D

There's no doubt he'll get picked up but not as high as some people have suggested here. Probably high 20s to low 30s. I wouldn't be surprised if he does go between 10 and 20 though, looks an AFL player.

Re: Bachar Houli!

If Fremantle got Jetta first round i'd be happy with Houli as a second rounder. If we get Selwood, i'd prefer a player like Connors second round. It depends on who you get first round.

I think he'll get picked in the vicinity of the priority picks after round 1. Late 1st round early second.

Sheahen knows what is going on, if he wraps a player, then it is certain he will be drafted, that's how the system works.

But watch out for a Knights kid, Jake Spiteri, who will dominate next season in the TAC Cup after he bulks up a little, is a better player than Tom Hawkins and Matthew Kruezer

From an insiders point of view, having skills on both sides of the body is not a huge requirement, study AFL games and see how many do have these skills and how many work hard to get disposal on their preferred side.
Prime requirements are; speed, height, strength, ability to carry the ball, big engines and above all being arrogant.

I'm not talking this year . I'm talking next season, this kid is better than the two I mentioned

You are correct, which TAC club do you have an involvement in, I've heard that he can play a bit as well

OOPS , got the player mixed up.

Sorry champ you are way off line with Spiteri, he is probably the most over rated player at the Knights, slow, can't kick, gets out marked by opponents, but is well liked by the coaching staff and that's keeps him in.
The TAC and Metro coaches are hoping that his height and his slim frame will develop him into a player, but at this stage just goes.

If the frame and kicking doesn't get better by mid season next year, he will be player the restof the season at his local Club(Bundoora I believe), but you can't put muscle on a bony frame.

He also has damaged his reputation in his local junior league by not helping or watching his club, last Sunday was a perfect example, not in the Metro Team yet went to watch them instead of helping out his Junior side

Are you guys serious?

Players without skills on both sides of their bodies are marked down by scouts because of it. And yep, AFL players will work hard to get onto their natural foot when they can because they are better with that side of their body - but these has been true throughout footy history. It was also a lot easier to kick with your opposite foot when the gameplan was to kick to a contest rather than spot up a moving target as is required today.

As for suggesting coaching panels at TAC level are going to play someone just because he is a 'good bloke'. Give me a break.

Back to the thread, Houli's opposite foot is fine. Just fine - and he is able to use it in situations other than simply get out of trouble.
