Interesting people, especially Gill and ch7 banging on about how amazing the TV ratings were.
I'd love to know how many actualy watch each year in the first place.

Every other year tens of thousands of barbies where 10 or 20 will watch one TV, pubs will be chock a block with hundreds watching a couple of tv's.
I doubt anymore people watched on Sat night than any other year, they were just confined to individual households
Even just the lockdown factor of some people who may not of watched it apart from the fact they were in lockdown and there wasn’t really anything else on

It’s not like they could of gone out for dinner or whatever so they just chucked on the tv with the game due to lack of options

Peggy hated the night aspect.
Too long to wait for the game, people in ordinary condition as the game starts, way to late for young families, too late for player and fan celebrations after the game that will heavily impact on traditional family day the following day, and I was surprised as a president she had absolutely no say in the matter.

Yeah it was a really strange day especially to have a team in the game (it may of been different for neutral supporters)
I spoke to a few mates throughout the day (both teams) and we all felt the same we woke up with that great grand final buzz and excitement and my mates with younger kids had them
Hyped for the game

But once it hit the afternoon the hype had dwindled a lot, I ended having a nap on the couch and the kids became basically uninterested in the event and treated it like any other weekend

Once the game started that buzz came back but those few hours in the afternoon really put a dampener on the day and I even think about if we weren’t in lockdown having people over at night is just more difficult logistically especially For young family’s

After watching the game again I've come to realise how important Lynch was to our game. Initially, I thought Lynch did two thirds of fruit all and was near worthless. But after watching again I appreciated how much hard work he did just to get to the drop of the ball. Sometimes taking on 3 or 4 players just to get there to make sure the Cats didn't get the mark. While at the same time he was being held, shepparded and blocked out of the contest. He fought them all and went up anyway. It was unrealistic to believe he was going to come out of situations like that with a mark.
The ball hitting the ground was all that really mattered. Costanza, Edward and company were flying down in waves to get the ball once it hit the deck and the other important thing I realised only on the second time of watching was that alot of the Cats defenders were tall big guys. Our small forwards look like mice scuttling around their feet. That gave us an advantage with a decked ball.

I'd love to be able to sit and watch what Richmond got up to during the half time break because it looked a completely different game after half time.
The defence was again excellent. First to survive the 2nd quarter bombardment that somehow left Richmond behind by 15 points...it really should have been by 30 points or more. It seemed we couldn't get the ball past half way for most of that quarter. And then to only give up 14 points after half time, especially on the big stage during a Grand Final is beyond exceptional.

Dusty is friggen Hercules out there. That last goal where he made a joke out of Danger's tackle and kicking the goal was epic.

So how do we stand up with the other Big Victorian clubs.
We've now won 8 flags since WW2, second behind Essendoom and Carlton who have 9, Colonwood have 4
Our strike rate once we get to a GF is now 52% marginally behind Essendon and Carlton but well in front of Colonwood who are at 35%
Our premiership frequency improves to one every 8.6 years, Essendon and Carlton leading at 7.7 years. The long droughts have hurt us here, had we snagged a couple more during those barren years we'd be leading this stat. Nevertheless, one every 8 or 9 years is not too bad given how long other club supporters have to wait.
This current team deserve to be labelled as legends.
Further to this, if we take 1960 as a reference point (you'd have to be 65 to 70 years of age to remember) then Richmond and Carlton reign supreme with 8 flags, ahead of Essendon on 6 and Colonwood on 2. (Hawthorn have 13 here but I'll limit the discussion to the Big 4 Vic clubs). I think the question has to be asked, what gives Colonwood any legitimacy in the current era? 11 of their flags were won prior to WW2 even starting! They're living off ancient glories, so irrelevant in modern sport. One other fascinating stat is if we look at all the possible flags that could have been won since we joined in 1908, Carlton and Essendon have 14, we and Colonwood have 13. That shows that all 4 clubs have been relatively even performers over the journey, what it doesn't show is the stark difference of when they were won.

I'm still going to put the Tiges on top, flags are so much harder to win in an expanded competition, compromised draft and overtly biased umpiring. Do you think flags won since 2012 with an 18 team comp should be worth 1.5 or 2 flags from the past?

Exactly the danger of taking stats and numbers at face value. If you had figures related to how many people per rating/view score from previous years it'd work out very close.

Helpful data for AFL in any case, because it puts a more accurate figure on how many are actually watching.

may have gone a little overboard with 78 GIFs haha
