The Gauntlet of Shar trials and that whole section nearly put me off the game entirely. Had to reload my save at least 60 times in certain sections. Not sure I’m enjoying Act 2 anywhere near as much as Act 1. There’s also a part of the temple I couldn’t get out of, as my party couldn’t jump far enough. I also can’t complete the Shar stuff because it will impact other quests apparently. So I’ve left and I’ll come back to it later. Piss poor game design.

Think I was a little under leveled for that section.
I went there by accident thinking going to Moonrise would trigger the main fight for Act 2 so I found the Temple of Shar by trying to find iron for Karlach. But you are meant to go to Moonrise first, then the Temple of Shar

If you are under levelled I'd recommend going to do the Mountain Pass or Underdark (whichever you didn't do) for some extra EXP

Exactly what I did! So I’ve gone back to Moonrise to do some more stuff.

I haven’t been to the Mountain Pass yet, so I’ll probably check that out next. Cheers

Man I absolutely loved the temple of Shar. The whole thing reminded me of a WoW raid with different encounters I had to work out and only wish there were more that took a bit more effort. While it's easily my favourite pure RPG since the glory days of isometric RPGs 20+ years ago the only thing I'm missing are more actual real dungeons. Neverwinter Nights 1 had some of the best with a decent dungeon crawl in almost every region.

There were some enjoyable parts. Most of the encounters I was able to win, which was nice.

However, battling my own party in the trial and them going invisible was a constant pain in the ass. I’m not smart enough to figure out how to counter that. It took me nearly 3 hours to pass that section. Then the final trial kept glitching and teleporting me out, killing me when I was following the correct path.

Then I got stuck in the section with the Yusig fat demon dude or whatever his name is and it took me 2 hours to try and leave that area. I ended up having to teleport out. I solved a part of his quest and it didn’t update. So I had to steal that orb thing without him noticing.

Was just a frustrating section but I’m glad I’m mostly through it.

I unintentionally cheesed that demon guy. I was trying to jump to places I thought maybe I shouldn't be before I even knew he was there and ended up getting my party on some broken platforms and stairs that the enemies had trouble path finding to. Ended up using one character to bait out the adds one by one and killing them with range before just being able to concentrate on the bug guy. I am not ashamed.

I loved the whole Gauntlet of Shar and The Nightsong. I think my party was level 7 or 8.
The Trials were a bit of a challenge especially when the self same glitched and I lost weapons that were disarmed. Luckily I’d saved before going in and just did it again.

Through my own actions I found the ending of the Shar stuff a bit anticlimatic though

All that work to get the spear, kill old mate Balthazar, Shadowheart wanted to kill Nightsong unless I passed a ridiculous roll... but I gave the spear to another party member at camp in which Nightsong said she couldn't be killed without it anyway and we all made up and left happily ever after

Make sure you have Lae’zel if you’re doing the mountain pass. Her storyline is pretty cool.

I convinced him to kill himself then help me kill Raphael in Act 3. High charisma Durge all the way

Currently 55 hours into the game and only just scratched the surface of Act 2.

It's incredible just how much content they've packed into BG3 and I'm not even halfway through yet.

Yep. Early access on ps5 so almost a month worth of playing. Over 50 hours in and I’ve only done one fight in the mountain pass.

Tactician is brutal in certain fights

I've lost count of hours. Must be 70+ and in act 3 now.

Normal mode but definitely going to gear up for a tactician run next.

Learning how certain spells work best and combat strategies are making things much easier. Examining foes before attacking makes can really help with combat strategies.

People doing tactician runs and I die in basic encounters on normal mode and need to talk myself out of nearly every boss.

Can’t get the hang of the combat unfortunately. Still having a blast with the game.

Would love another developer to take the BG 3 approach to storytelling and decision with combat mechanics from a game like Witcher 3. A bit less complex and it would be perfect for me 😂

I love the mechanics but I come from old school table-top D&D so it makes sense to me.

None of this 5e ruleset though old AD&D.

I played on easy so don't fret about what difficulty you are on. Trick is just finding what works for you. It wasn't until I realised how to use Fireball and my lightning spells as AOE around level 8 did combat "click" for me

And long resting. Not being scared to use my spell slots and using the long rest to get them back made the mini bosses a lot easier

I’m thinking that once I’ve completed my first (mainly good) play through I’ll do an evil tactician play through as a necromancer…

completed act 2 at around 60 hours game time. Feels slower compared to other people online but I thought I was pretty thorough and did most of what was on offer.

Not sure if I enjoyed the act as a whole. Was there significantly less to do compared to act 1? Felt like it. The setting being so dark and creepy probably wasn’t my thing.

Feel like there were some absolutely brutal fights and a huge upscale in difficulty. I got lucky so many times and got through some of the boss fights with the skin of my teeth. The Balthazar fight was ridiculous. Had to google some strategies and found out that you could stack the bones up near a ledge and force push the undead off. So I did that and the fight was still tough but I made it through. Keeping Isobel alive was tough. Had to save scum that one as I wasn’t happy with the repercussions to her getting pinched.

I saved night song and she helped me in both ketheric thorm fights, barely scraped through both of those also. Jaheira died and for some reason I couldn’t revive her, oh well we move on. Then the fight with The Emperor against the Giths kicked my ass but I got it right eventually. Maybe my gear sucks.

Already vibing with the first 2 hours of act 3. Amazing

For me whats most impressive is how they’ve nailed that feeling of luck and momentum!

You might play for an hour and the dice don’t go your way, then it’s like there’s a momentum swing and you are passing checks easily.

Feels amazing to roll successfully on a moment you know is important.

Had my toughest battle to date last night
Taking on the mother superior in the temple of Shar at the end of Shadowheart’s quest.
It’s a pretty tough battle with lots of minions who can do heaps of damage under darkness.
I had several attempts and getting but I kept getting wiped, although got close with only a few remaining.
It was a bit cheesy the way I survived. I thought my whole party had been wiped but Gale was unconscious not dead and he woke up in jail.
Escaped from prison and went back to camp, rezzed everyone and went back and took out mother superior and the rest of her minions.
My party was level 11. Not sure if waiting until L12 would have made it a bit more manageable.

so I failed a dice roll and got attacked by the flaming fists, while I’m killing them, Orin, disguised as a tiefling starts attacking me too. All of a sudden all the tieflings I rescued are after me. So I killed everyone and only had Orin left at the end. Got her HP down to 0 but she wouldn’t die. Guess there’s still too much story involved with her, but not entirely sure why I couldn’t kill her then and there. Had to reload a save as I was stuck in battle not able to kill Orin
