I had it on my Fightlock on my first playthrough and I couldn't pass it up with Magical Secrets on my Sword Bard that I'm playing through on tactician. Saved our party's bacon vs the Steel Watch Foundry boss.

Went with a Human Fighter and then chose Battle Master as the subclass. I had a read up and this seems the most simple for first playthrough while I figure things out.
Pretty good option.

Champion may even be easier as you don’t need to think about battle manoeuvres.

If you don’t like you can respec from pretty early on in the game.
You need to find an undead guy called Withers who will join your camp

Just remember to long rest. Melee classes it is easier to just whack things with your action and not rest to get your spells back. A lot of story beats happen when you long rest

Apparently, you don't even need to find him. Rest often enough and he just rocks up to your camp

Is her character still locked behind a bunch of bugs? I want to do a Minthara evil Durge run but not if the content is still blocked
Haven't done a durge run yet but definitely something I'm keen on.

Minthara was such a good companion in my normal run (I betrayed the druids and embraced the absolute but ultimately betrayed them too as I just wanted the cool abilities). She still had lots of great interactions
only shit thing was how lot of the discussions about ruling with her was completely ignored in the rushed finale

Anyone here like me who isn’t a fan of turn based combat but jumped into this and like it? That’s the only reason I’m hesitant on giving this a crack, I really don’t like turn based stuff.
Yep. I haven’t found myself invested in a turn based RPG in literally decades, and this one is a corker.

My only experience with turn based combat would be the Pokemon games and this is nothing like those games. The game is essentially all in real time until you enter combat. The main things you can do on your character's turn is move, an action like attack, cast a spell, throw something or heal and in later levels or special classes a bonus action. The neat thing is that it is all pretty quick once you work out what each class is good at and you get into a rhythm. I found the combat really fun when you get the hang around how your class works

Also, you can avoid a bunch of combat encounters by talking to people or pre-emptively blowing them up with barrels of gunpowder and wine

Yes, but be prepared to make regular mistakes and scrape through battles by the skin of your teeth.

Cloud of Daggers is a good early spell to use with Gale.

The turn based combat is pretty cool as there are often a myriad of options to choose from for your actions/bonus actions. Spells or different attacks, correct arrow or grenade, do you want to reposition, buff, which enemy or enemies do you want to target.

The turn based system Larian has come up with is pretty good for helping distil the complex choices available.

I suggest you become familiar with the tool bars for each character and customise them to suit your play style for that particular character - I've made custom toolbars for most of my characters. For melee and ranged attacks I use the relevant weapon taskbar for relevant attack options and I use the Spell Level or Cantrip icons to see what options are available for casters in my party.
