Ballantyne wants out - Eagles

Neale and Walters are success stories ,you're spot on but for every one of those there are the Sibisado's,Houghton's,etc, etc . The list of failed low draft picks go on and on. Mc Kenzie is just the type of player that the Hawks or Sydney would lock onto. Ready made and a club fair and best. Rebuilding is not all about picking up spec low draft picks and hoping for the best.

Agree, and I don't think we'll go all out total rebuild where youth is the be all and end all. We're renovating as Ross says. As it currently stands, McKenzie would be an upgrade on not only Dawson and Collins but also Tabs and Apeness (notwithstanding improvement from the young guys over the off season obviously)

I see what you mean if we really in top 4 mode. Duffman or johnson play afl early because during that time we got the same situation eg outgoing retirement rog hayden, parker , grover , scoofield , carr brother . If kids keep playing for peel what is the advantage coming to freo.

Instead of putting all the energy into one or two player , why not use the time and look at how sydney or gws set up their acedemy and make full use of the home grown zone talent and improve further the allingment with peel . Eg their reserve , if one (balic) freo players improve them , putting two or three 18-24 years old freo there that just come back from injury will help freo and peel. Maybe there is a lot of talent with peel but there dont have good system to work with.
Good points Meima and to a large degree, I agree. I just have little faith in Johnson and Dawson to survive another season fully fit... I just think Mckenzie provides what we're really needing into 2017 while those guys you mention develop and are introduced into the team throughout the year. Henderson at geebung, suckling at WB etc

west coast need a ruck with NicNat out and Lycett being Lycett.
happy to send Clarke and Ballas there for McKenzie to be honest

Clarke and Ballas for EMac?
Haha okey.
Emac is worth neither in a straight player for player trade. He is done and will be lucky to rack up 20 more games of AFL.
Yes I'm writing EMac off.

After watching him on Ch9 news, I reckon he's gone. Offer tabled from somewhere else.

You must of picked up something between the lines because all I heard is that he is contracted and playing for Freo next year. Must admit I am nearly in the don't care mode anymore as we do need some picks to get Hill, McCarthy and Kersten etc

Wow kersten a long shot.

Wow kersten a long shot.

Sure, Kersten is only a rumour like Hogan and Lobb and many others being linked to our club. But the more we are trading the more likely it is that we are trying to bring back more players beyond Hill and McCarthy.

Personally I would be happy with keeping pick 3 (because Lobb and Hogan are not coming IMO) and just getting Hill and McCarthy and then drafting for our weaknesses like ruck etc.

So that would mean leaving WA with his young family and the club he loves to have one extra year of security.
Fremantle already agreed to extend him by one year past next ie; 2018.
Nah.

He wants a fresh start. He even mentioned Eddie Betts in his presser. I'd say almost certainly this will be his last game for the club.

If Ballantyne wants out, it is unrealistic to think we can turn that into a great young player to help with this Melbourne-esque rebuild people seem to think we need. Ballantyne would only get us a very late selection, which would require a complete fluke at the draft table to be a good trade.

Getting a swap for a similar age player would be a fair result. Not sure if that player should be MacKenzie, but I don't think his age should be an issue. Not the best kick, but neither was McPharlin. Before the knee he was a great stopper and way better than Dawson, Collins and Silvagni. If he is just going through the common struggles coming back from a knee, he could be a very solid player to have on our list for the next 2-4 years.

Lecras is the biggest downhill skier of all time. I'll say this, we could do with anyone with a big of heart. October 3, 2015 still haunts me.
Unfortunately I think both players are no longer at their best, being in the twilight of their careers. The thing with Ballantyne is that he gets too vigorous at times and ends up getting suspended. Personally I don't want him - think he should stay at the Dockers until he retires. At his age will probably only be offered a year by year contract with the a Eagles anyway which from my understanding he wants a 3 year contract so more than likely won't happen. With Nic going down we have higher priorities now - need to address the midfield and ruck before even thinking about the forward line.

These last two years have shown that Ballantyne the midfielder isn't productive, the next two years with Ballantyne the forward pocket can be quite good.
Ballantyne has kicked 26 goals 14 behinds at 60% from 18 games. 3rd accurate at our club.

The 2 guys better than him accuracy wise? Walters has kicked 38 goals 14 at 65 %

Tabs leads at 75% at 18 goals and 6 behinds from 17 games.

Give collins another year and tighten up the ease of the ball coming into the opposition forward line and Collins will be better than all those three. IMO :)

Nah.

Agree, this is the stupidity of him/Manager, talk about cutting off your nose...

Will he work out what appears to be obvious and stay. I actually think he will, but strangely, I don't care anymore.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at GWS for the next 2-3 years. He would get so many cheap goals with that midfield running around..
