Correct - I for one completely got that wrong. I would have thought Geddes would not have tipped South to be 4th after 3 rounds! The ladders I have seen all had South last - did you think differently before the season started?

I certainly didn't think they were going to be the worst side ever in the history of the Bal FL.. Especially once Sutton and Thomas signed on for 2011. I thought they would give Melton a real big shake but thought they would drop the Darley and Lakers games, wasn't sure whether they would be able to contain McMahon enough to get within 6 goals, it was a great effort, especially as they played a young guy on him and the kid did a reasonable job....

Looking forward to seeing how they progress over the course of the year. Sure, they are young, but I am sure Geddes is looking for steady improvement from the young guys, no doubt they will have down weeks, but as long as they keep improving it is good signs for the Panthers... :thumbsu:

If you've been around long enough to remember Redan & Daylesford at their worst in the 1990's you'd never predict a side to be that bad!

It was clear that there were a few about that truly believed that it was going to be the case, but Geddes deserves credit for building a side that will be very competitive this year, with minimal resources.. Also, a great deal of credit needs to go out to the guys that did stick around even as the rumours flowed of them leaving, they stuck around on what is highly likely to be a lot less coin and are contributing to the side, its great to see.

In other news, good to see Sunbury going so well, the list of names for the interleague squad is impressive, most impressive is that a major majority of those guys are from the Sunbury area.. So well done to the Lions... :thumbsu:

Same old suspects in the interleague squad. Picked on reps not form. Wonder if interleague assistant coach Rick Horwood had a say in selection. BFL will recieve a good ass kicking from GVFL!!!

So who in your opinion is missing then?? Easy to pot an interleague selection, but the ability to highlight who should or shouldn't be picked is where it adds credibility to your post... :thumbsu:

Good post - I recieved mail that Sutts was gone and that was a real worry. Full credit to Geddes - maybe there are people from the RDFL that know a bit about the game! If they play finals Geddes should be named coach of the year.

They have won 2 games, by seasons end they will have 3 or 4 wins. Don't get carried away gents.

Who is getting carried away.. Think KA said "if" they make finals, and as for myself, I just pointed out that the Panthers proved that they are much better than you give them credit for... 3 or 4 wins is much better than the "worst side in history"....

I am pretty sure that Geddes would be just happy to see steady improvement across the course of the year. The Panthers wouldn't be gauging the season on wins/losses, they are rebuilding a side that can be competitive over an extended period of time...

They could easily pick up the next 2 and they also have Sebas twice to come as well as return games against Melton and Darley. I think you are under selling them. 7-8 wins and you can play finals.

Will always be a problem when announcing interleague squads so early in the season. It doesn't give the unheralded players an opening to string together a significant run of form to force their way into the team.

Now if the bloods beat darley tommorow night ,their will be a shit fight amongst the players ,officials, and coaching staff. And for the ferral supporters...................well take up another interest for the rest of the year cause ,you wont be playing finals this year most likely playing for wooden spoon ..............ah the delight darley winning the wooden spoon ,well at least they will have something for the trophy cabinet ..

OK, i'll bite.

I would say that there would be a fair amount of unrest if they drop the game against Melton. Darley is a proud club and we do not accept mediocrity, frankly because we are not used to it. Since joining the BFL we have played finals all but two or three years from memory and we have the team to finish in the top six again in 2011.

Unlike Bacchus Marsh where mediocrity and cellar dwelling has become par for the course, we are not content with getting within 10 goals of the top sides. Our aim is to compete with the big boys, not give sides an automatic four points when they play against us.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would suggest that Darley will finish on the bottom of the ladder, but on form, this weeks game is definitely a danger game for the Devils.. They certainly need to lift and the beauty of this game is that it could have the total opposite effect on Darley than your post and play them into form.. Will be interesting to see the result...

i think this is the problem with the club and its supporters get with reality and to quote dr phill you cant change wont you dont aknolwedge, there are problems their with leadership paying over the odds for players (porter ) and really i know brand them the port power of the comp, promise the world and deliver an atlas..............

Heard from a friend who lives down that way, that Darley are in disaray. Closed doors meetings with the senior squad. They wouldn't want to lose this week, then the wheels will come right off!!

Now if you cup your ear and be quiet for a minute ,itsmyshow and james kerr ,you can hear the drums beating that loud out of darley park that the africans are dancing to it.Could not happen to a better bunch of outside ,lazy ,throw the hands in the air when it gets tough ,bunch of second rate players. please read below..

Been waiting for you to show up, and guess what? I got nothing.

Agree with all of that at the moment, pathetic and insipid performance with no excuses.

Apparently I am a Darley supporter now...

For what it is worth, I still don't think Darley will finish on the bottom of the ladder in 2011...

Another solid win to the Panthers!!! Great stuff once again by the worst side in Ballarat FL history!!! :thumbsu:

Shit supporters? There are some well respected people, helpers, familys at Darley who give up their time week in week out who are good people.

Yes from what hear, their performance on the weekend was one of the worst of all time. Cant blame Gary Learmonth. Obvisiously, them team meetings they supposdley had during the week didnt help, made things worse. They need to stop thinking their an AFL club (off field stuff i mean). Its local footy. Have fun. In my opinion, they need players like Edwards, Porter, the out-of-towners on four figure sums a game, get em out. Start fresh. Rebuild, so to speak. The darley supporters need to relise, you cant be up forever. They had their run at the top in 08, 09. Yous dont have the likes of Miller, cheevers, newman/urch, robbins their now.
You have some good kids coming through, so gotta look after them, unlike in the past. make sure you hang onto them.

They wont make finals this year, so instead of playing fringe players from the 2s, may aswell blood some kids for the future.

Agree, at Darley for every feral there are 20 or more decent folk. Ordinary comment.

Players like Edwards and Porter are not the problem. Tuddy is currently our captain, spends time running functions and helping out whenever he can, and to top it off is our best player and performs that way each week. Hard to judge Ports as he played 1 and a half games and done his knee, unfair call there.

Sounds like Darley need to have a look at Craigieburn and what happened there over the summer. They had huge issues both on the field and culturally off it. They got Paul Barnard as coach and made some tough decisions which included replacing a club legend and well liked captain in Daniel Nolan, he walked away from the club and then a lot of the dead wood appeared to follow him. They have put up some very good performances so far this season and appear to be on the right track.

Perhaps a strong respected figure head equivalent to Barnard is needed to clear out some of the home grown dead wood that is holding the club back.

Very sound comment there. Learmonth just has to go, no matter if he is the greatest bloke and coach going around. Obviously he has reached his use by date and his message has become stale and is falling on deaf ears. Darley desperately need a clean slate and a new start. Just look what Sunbury have done, gotten rid of the worst and most costly money wasting coach in their living history and now they are playing with passion and purpose beating all comers (so far) with half the list Power had at his disposal. Sunbury now have a champion team not a team of high priced champions. They are chock full of local talented players playing great footy for the jumper and the club......And thats what the Devils have got to get back to.....And fast !

Yep. Brendan Hehir and Dean Lupson as co-coaches in 2012!
