the difference is North city 18s 2009, had an over age player who played most of the year before someone from another team told league officials?

So completely different. This football league has a history of having two sets of rules.

The sad thing is now about 10 of the Sunbury Under 18 boys have played their last game of football without them knowing it was their last game and without being able to share this moment with their parents.

If Rod Ward (BFL) and Brett Anderson (VCFL) think that this decision has developed, fostered, coordinated and sustained Australian Football at the Club and League level throughout Regional and Rural Victoria then they have made a gross error of judgement.

They will also have to live with the hurt, disappointment and anguish they have caused 22 young men and their families for the rest of their lives, and I for one will certainly be reminding them of this at every opportunity.

They will have to serve the Victorian Football Community for many, many, many more years to come to make up for this colossal error of judgement on their behalf.

A similar thing happened many, many years ago against Ballarat u18s against melton south, played a player that hadnt played all year and it was Sunbury that told the BFL and Ballarat were kicked out of the finals.

In no way shape or form is it a "similar thing".

I salute & congratulate the young men of the Sunbury Under 18s who played and won their final game of junior football with dignity and honour on the football field.

The same cannot be said for Sebastapol.

Rubbish - why make crap up???

It’s my understanding that Sebastopol Football Club were given every opportunity by the BFL and were actively encouraged by the BFL to withdraw their protest and chose not to.

Its ironic for the Sebastapol Football Club whose name comes from the battlefields of the Crimean War and where the metals from the captured “Cannons of Sebastapol” are used to make the Victoria Cross, could not display the same honour and courage that were displayed on those fields of battle by allowing the result of this football match to be decided on the football field where it belongs.

Your actions Sebastapol Football Club will forever be remembered.

Pretty sure ballarat under 18s got kicked in 2000. Ballarat had a over age player who won the league goal kicking. Ballarat beat sunbury in a final then were kicked out the next week

In no way shape or form is this a similar situation and we are all a little bit more dumber for having read your post.

Read the posts relating to this issue properly and you will be a little bit smarter. ;)

Lets look at this at a players point of view.

How do you think I felt when I turned up to training on Tuesday after playing (without knowing yet) my last game of football together with my team mates on the Sunday? Probably one of the gutsiest performances I've been a part of. To be informed that in the eyes of the league and our opponents that the effort we put in on Sunday was invalid and not worthy of being awarded a victory because of a ridiculously outdated and illogical ruling.

I only wish the hierachy at Sebastopol were able to see the looks on the boys faces when they were the delivered the news, because they would've retracted their protest straight away. And to see them bullshit on their facebook page that they 'at no stage protested or put in a complaint' only angers us further.

I have played in 4 junior grandfinals with a lot of the boys I played with in 2012, but I will never be prouder of a season than I was with this year, to watch us take it to the top sides without a bench all year and then to win that final how we did.

Well spoken mate, the league and sebastopol owes you and your team an apology. I hope that isn't the last we see of you in the league, hopefully you kick on next year in the seniors.

Sunbury must have won......no whinging or umpy bashing going on.......

Great to see the Sebas under 18's kicked out of the comp on the weekend. Word is they are working on an appeal to the VCFL under the "its just not fair and if we sook hard enough we should get another game" rule.

They are hoping to run out again this weekend and become the 1st team to win a flag after losing every final they play in.

I THINK IT TIME THAT YOU LOOKED AT IT FROM A GROWN UPS POINT OF VIEW!!! Rules are rules, the decision has been made, your season is over, now go away and get over it

I heard Bacchus Marsh had a 15 year old on their bench for 90% of the game who didn't get a touch. Would be unfair to see them eliminated. but hey, 'rules are rules' and obviously in yours and the leagues eyes, these 'rules' are to be seen without any context.

Sebastopol were given ample opportunity to withdraw their protest and in particular were strongly encouraged by the BFL to withdraw their protest, as it was frivolous, mean spirited and not designed to punish that eventuality.

Like I said earlier the captured "Cannons of Sebastapol" from the Crimean War are used to produce the Victoria Cross Medals, the highest military award for bravery and honour in British and Australian armed forces - its a pity that the Sebastopol Football Club doesnt have the intestinal fortitude to live up to that standard.

If anyone wants to go on and on with a "rules are rules" mantra lets see what happens next year when Sebastapol play Sunbury at Sunbury and request Sunbury play in their away jumpers because Sebastopol cant afford to purchase an away clash strip. I dont think Sunbury will be as accomodating next season.;)

The extra 150k is worth to play football on a level playing field.
"In the perfect world" Sunbury should be playing in a North/West Metro League and could only happen if AFL stepped in and sorted out/restructured Metro leagues(wont happen in near future) but they are are attempting to do that with VCFL. Logically arent a BFL team as arguably neither are Melton and Melton South but that will only be fixed by above

Things against going to EDFL, no gate takings so money loss there for a start, and EDFL have stated that new teams will not go to Premier/A Grade comp, meaning Sunbury would have to start in B Grade,.

Now grand final this week, think Redan will need to bottle up game, cant see them going head to head in shootout and beating Sunbury. Will playing every week have an effect on them. Sunbury should get great benefit for week off.

Sunbury should be too big around the ground, have improved from last year, not sure whether Redan have, but they are the proven GF specialists. so that must count. Sunbury to win.

Have they named the umpires? They will decide the game.
