Bartel to sign for four years

You sound confident that Cameron Ling will retire at years end, PO.

Are you absolutely sure he will? Don't just say so because you think he is old and tired etc, or that you THINK he should, but whether what you think the reality may end up being.

I am not sure that Linga will retire..but if he doesnt relinquish the captaincy this year, then next year will be his last as club captain. Joel's contract is up and captaincy will be part of the reward he will receive for signing on for another 4 years ( I hope!! )

Ling holds a special place I think with the playing group..and certainly with most Cat fans. Like Cam Mooney, I don't think Ling will need to be forced out....he will do the best thing for the club and the playing group.

I am confident that whatever happens will be the right thing, simply because of the quality of the guys we are talking about here.

Poor call to say he doesn't deserve 4 years SJ.

Jimmy DESERVES the financial security he will receive from this contract.

This man has been one of the main faces of one of the greatest era's of football in AFL history, for our club..we have correctly shown appreciation here.

Even if he tapers in years 3 and 4, or a few injuries slow him down, I would not care 1 ounce of the cap constraints we incur from his contract even if he struggles in the last years of it.

Great to see Geelong look after one of its Legends ..

So pumped he retires a cat.

One can never be sure. Only Cam himself can be sure.

However I think the reality is likely to be so.

Ling will go out at 30, like Harley did.

He knows that old bodies can decline very quickly and he won't risk going on one year too long and having a problem situation occur for both himself and the team. He epitomises team first and as such I reckon he's the last bloke who'll roll the dice that way.

As for the reality, I think the Selwood decision (as a pose to the rotational system of VC's we had last year for the games Ling missed) is a pointer to the fact that the club expects Ling to retire soon.

Joel will definitely be our next captain, and it'll probably happen for 2012.

Jimmy can sign me for 4 years.

He's had no significant problems with his body and when he ages he is definitely a guy who can spend time forward. He is practically dominant in the air against guys his own size.

LOVE IT!!! The man is a gun and is probably the toughest footballer going around (sorry Selwood).

He would have probably won another Brownlow had he and Ablett not been in the same team - and he might still this year.

Definitely deserves four years and will still be valuable at 31 as long as he doesn't suffer a serious injury.

Still waiting for it to be official but good on you Jimmy :thumbsu:
