America is the real goldmine. All the kids who are athletic freaks but miss out on Pro NBA or NFL but still wanna be professional athletes.
Not IMO, how many Americans have made it so far? Sure Cox has done well but remember he’s a pretty smart cookie, IMO Sudanese players are the way to go, many have a grounding in Aussie rules now or at least know the rules, most Giant recruits from America won’t have the cardio for AFL, they would also struggle with the physical aspect considering they call many NBA players ‘hard’, they will end up going home with a new definition of hard.

We got lucky with Cox, high IQ player who kept things simple, never tried to reinvent the wheel, just did what he could, and he did it well, IMO he has always been best 22 since the Richmond final IMO.

Leg growth plates are the first to fuse, spine has growth plates too and they tend to fuse later than the legs, those are good for an inch or 2 on average from what I’m told, toes and fingers have growth plates as well, my son just turned 14 and is 6’3, his leg plates have fused, we only know that due to X-rays from nasty growing pains in his knees.

Has your son been diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter?

Yes we can. I'm more amused by the statement that it's a "poor investment of resources."
It is.
Wherever the funding comes from, its source is club revenues.
He’s the only participant in the scheme, there’s been immigration support, he’s wearing our kit, on tour in the NT with us, getting training programs from someone at the club, he lives in the club gym and I’m sure there’s other support I can’t even imagine.
He’d never touched a football before the scholarship.

There are so many other more likely prospects.
He’s a waste of resources.

I’ll bet you a self imposed one month ban on posting that he never plays a game for premiership points at Collingwood.

Who honestly cares? It's money that is appropriate specifically to allow an international kid to get involved in football and do it at Collingwood to boot. It's not like the club suddenly can't afford to pay its staff or run its community service programs simply because we're providing a scholarship to Bassirou Faye.

It's a fantastic initiative to give a guy from a poor background a leg up and feel connected to his adopted community while doing it. If you ran a simple cost/benefit analysis, it'd come out a net positive. Maybe we should stop funding soup kitchens and homeless shelters, because the people taking advantage of those will never play a game for premiership points. Sometimes things are bigger than footy - although in this case Faye actually has a CHANCE of playing footy.

We’re in the business of winning premierships.
I’m happy for us to do that in Australian Rules format; mens, women’s and wheelchair.
You can jam the netball team as well.

When we have a team in Senegal, I’m happy for Faye to be recruited.

I note you’re not accepting the bet?

I'll accept the bet mate. The Roo will play senior footy and he will be better than Cox.

Cox was around 23 years old when he first touched a football.
Roo was only 18.

Roo is athletically gifted and has the physique

I’m fairly certain Jarrod Witts was on a club scholarship when he first started at Collingwood.

Yep he was on a NSW scholarship, from a rugby union background.

I'd wonder if we would see a few more of them make the jump to the AFL, Mason Cox could work as the ambassador for them arriving.

What an outrage! If we don't win this year, I'm blaming Bassirou specifically!
I'm glad we've already got our whipping boy nomination sorted, I was worried we'd go without one now that Madgen was delisted.

Have seen Big roo on the pies social media doing visits to indigenous schools with Leon Davis. Does anyone know where the big fella is playing this year. Is he a possibility for a VFL game. I’d love to see how he’s going.
Hey played for Beaumaris Reserves last year (Guy McKenna was the senior coach).

Yes, was quite severe as well, pain below both knees which would swell if he did too much, he grew very quickly from 13–14, he went from being his teams second best player in basketball to a bench player during the peak of it, physio recommended he kept playing but he just lost power in his legs and it blew his confidence apart, seems like he’s over it now fingers crossed, does flare up when he’s asked to mow the lawn though.

I find it bizarre the US don’t have lower level gridiron leagues, wonder if it’s due to insurance reasons etc, it’s a brutal sport.

I think his vertical leap is way bigger than
Going by this the vertical leap doesn’t matter much, apart from Croad there’s no players of note on the list, pretty sure this is for standing vertical, upon further investigation the AFL combine don’t run a running vertical, which I find strange. 9429E627-D438-49A0-B7ED-3B8C0FDE5291.png

At 6ft 9 a 84cm leap is a big effort.
Yeah that’s massive if it’s a standing vertical considering his height, shit, it’s massive either way.

Jordan had a 45 inch running vertical iirc, not sure if that was measured during his peak or at the NBA combine though, pretty sure NicNat was tested a few years after being drafted and cracked 40 inches in the running vertical which would’ve been club run, Jarad Brennan running vertical was off the chart iirc, 45/46 inch.

Found the running vert results, these are as 17 year olds at the combine. 75352AE1-7FBC-4237-9C31-571F9BB56BBB.png
