Same issue with Richard tambling. I heard one recruiter say he could’ve been 20 or 21 years old in his draft year, there was no way to know for sure. Kinda held water when you saw his lack of development..

I played against an aboriginal bloke in u16s and u18s who didn't have a birth certificate and the league wasn't allowed to ask him for one.
At u16s all the teams bar his own approached the league requesting proof of birth date as he was man sized and there were suspicions his club was fudging his birthdate.
Turns out they were right and when we were all turning 15 he was actually turning 18.
He admitted it over a beer in the pub many years later.

He comes from Senegal I thought I read , West Africa as opposed to East Africa, the people from West Africa are generally bigger than those from the East, sprinters as opposed to distance runner. What I like about him is his aggression which I think translates well to a ruckman.
Imagine him up forward as well.
We can only hope. The kid is a monster.

How many Australian born Sudanese kids with an AFL background are eligible cat Bs?

Due to the recency of the African immigration into Australia, pretty much all of them would be eligible for the Next Generation academies, as they pretty much all have a background considered Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD). Australia's African communities are a gold mine of athletic talent - soccer and basketball will reap the biggest dividends as they're the sports favoured within those communities. I'm surprised that Aussie Rules doesn't appear to being more proactive on this one. And it seems strange to me that we've poached a Senegalese kid away from basketball, but no clubs appear to be doing the same with the local African kids.

Good luck to him. But with heaps of local Aussie born Sudanese kids - it seems a strange move - although soccer and basketball are winning the Sudanese interest.

Cat-B Rookie where the others who live in Australia would be in Open Draft

Theyre pretty much all NGA available and available as Cat B if not footy players or not taken in the main draft. My point is that if you're going to be chasing foreignors due solely to athletic traits without any Aussie Rules production, why wouldn't you be first doing the same with local kids. Perhaps clubs are, but it does seem that the National Draft for kids already excelling is the only real way that these kids are getting a look in.

It’ll happen in time.

Hope so. I think footy is dropping the ball big time though.

This year I started at a South Australian private school with a 40% African background student population. It's early days, so my initial impression could be way off the mark. But here's what I've seen so far:

2 ex-students are socceroos and the school has links to Adelaide United - who've done a few things on campus already this year - there's also involvement with quality basketball programs and we have some awesome young players. Meanwhile, I'm yet to even see a footy on campus. Things may change when it's footy season, but I'm yet to see any interest from the footy community and no interest in the other direction.

I think we need Dekka to deputise you, SR36

I know Coxy is keen to set up an American academy after he retires. So many great athletes who are doing nothing after college because they don’t have the local competitions.
If it gets funded properly should be a good pool of players.
Would love to see big roo out at least on the VFL field. I hope we have a feeder local club he can play at.

There are lots playing high level junior basketball, and their flipping good, lots in the NBL as well, they fish with a longer pole than most, in time the will dominate AFL IMO, think 6’7 Ablett Jrn running around, but with sub 11 second 100 metre ability.

One of the NSW teams had Godfrey Okergurang (spelling?) on their rookie list, Australian national u18 champion (10.50), seen him long jump at the Wagga open day off 5 steps and cleared 7 metres on grass, 6’5 ish, he chose athletics over football, I’ve been to open days all over NSW and Vic and I’ve never seen anyone like him, and I’ve seen Jack Boulton live too, Jack actually played football around the Wangaratta area, put him in the GF sprint and he wins by 15 metres eased up, thinking he may have chosen athletics as well, AFL has never seen the likes of both athletes I’ve mentioned.

He thinks your growth plates close over by 18 years old, due to increased levels of Billy Frampton in the bloodstream.
Leg growth plates are the first to fuse, spine has growth plates too and they tend to fuse later than the legs, those are good for an inch or 2 on average from what I’m told, toes and fingers have growth plates as well, my son just turned 14 and is 6’3, his leg plates have fused, we only know that due to X-rays from nasty growing pains in his knees.
