Surely with all the coaching that goes in in Australian cricket these days, someone can work with him, teach him some decent footwork, and more importantly, not be looking at where he thinks the ball will be going if he makes contact? That's basic batting.

This kid was pumped up from am early age and had smoke blown up his backside because he was an “elite talent”

As I continue to say, talent is the most overrated thing in the game. All of the old school coaches got given the arse a longtime ago because we/they were too rigid. The odd freak will defy the basics and T20 has introduced new shots, but at the core batting is about getting the basics right or finding a way that you can get it to work for you. JFM had no technique, he is the ultimate leg side slogger with no footwork. It’s a long way back for him now. And probably what is worse is that someone like Ponting has been partially responsible fir blowing some of that smoke.
