Aging side in key areas and very poor recruitment. Whoever thought Hurst was good needs their papers stamped. Not retaining Evans more than ridiculous

Sounds like the Scorchers wanted to retain Evans, but we screwed up that plan by selecting him with our first pick which they couldn't match as they had already committed to Finn Allen as their platinum pick

The draft has definitely ruined the comp. Bit more of a mercenary type import setup now whereas before it felt like they were part of the squad a bit more when you could line the same blokes up every year and they were a bit more part of the squad.

Retention pick helps a little but it’s not really the same when clubs can poach them without input from the existing club

Evans and Bethel have been poor big signings. Would have preferred they took Akeel Hossein with pick 1 suits the style at Marvel perfectly.

. Good to chalk that win and move on. Won’t be beating any of the top teams with the key bats struggling like they are it was lucky it was only the scorcher who they were playing who are probably the worst lineup in this BBL.

Nice of Cricket Australia to give a Bethel a look at conditions out here though.

Agar actually hit some nice shots though. Rogers made 50 and I can count on one hand the ones that went where he wanted. Completely different innings
Would've been 100 on a ground with smaller boundaries like Marvel

You could have always retained Evans instead of paying for Allen though that was your decision.

Spot on Luke. Most of the Scorchers International recruits aren't even in the current squad.

Yep I mean dropping International recruits says it all, and that is on recruitment, only so much domestic players can cover that. Then you have an aging Tye who has been a servant but is now 5kmph slower and easier to hit, Kelly not the same bowler he was a few years ago too, Turner really not a bowling option and out of form. Hardie looks half fit at best, he tried last night but he barely hit one near the middle, it was an innings of a batsman that was 'searching' for form and it showed.

Sutherland is a proper Flintoff type isn't he. Would be keen to see how he develops in the near future. Can he get his batting or bowling good enough to be a red ball option?

Probably not and how many AR's do we need, bowling would have to significantly improve surely but he's a very good white ball option though

That was one of the strangest matches I've ever seen, both sides started off looking like trash, before mounting decent scores against the grain.

How Renegades got up at 4/10 still needing 140 odd and in danger of losing more wickets as they needed a high RR is one of the wildest turnarounds/ comebacks I've seen in this comp.

It looked more likely they'd be bowled out for 50 odd than win from there. Gades are definetely a much team this year though than in previous seasons.

You’d never see results like that again. Blokes that have made no runs for the entire tournament pull out there best innings ever? I know you need a fair bit of luck in cricket but that’s some top tier bullshit
You mean like Finn Allen who can't bat past the first over all of a sudden smashing a 50 at a nearly 200 strike rate?

Of course any move to make the competition fairer is not welcomed by Perth.

But I wouldn’t have thought Evans this year would fit the Perth mould, they always pride themselves on players playing the whole comp, not leaving halfway through like Evans is.

I disagree, a number of the players selected were already / have long been associated with their existing clubs, I don't think it's had a significant impact. Ben Duckett has probably been the best performed of those that are at new clubs, and yet the Stars sit bottom table.

3/9 after the power play, and then 4/17 after the 7th over

131 from 78 balls required, one of our batsmen unlikely to come to the crease unless required due to a hamstring injury and the bulk of genuine big hitters back in the shed

I'm not how we did it, but we did

Honestly, at one stage early in our innings I was just hoping to get past 15/16 runs and not finish with the lowest score

JFM has to drop down I’m sorry he has to

Allen has still been good. Shocking start obviously but I think the opener suits us better.

Not really that unhappy with one or the other, it’s not getting them both and getting spuds like Hurst and Jennings that’s the issue. The draft takes all the recruiting skill out of it when you can just pick up blokes that have done well in the past

With Evans gone it would make sense for him to become the lower order hitting option

Open with Harris and Brown/Seifert and adjust from there

Yeah the wells injury is annoying from that standpoint but last night was a perfect time to not bat stupid and show he could bat with an ounce of responsibility

Without the draft you might as well not have a competition as there’s no way other teams can improve. Can’t have all the players being allowed to play for one side it would get boring very quickly. Can they improve the draft yes but is it is good concept yes. Just wish there was more explanation on the signing of guys outside the draft personally doing that inside the draft would be better
