They need to torch this franchise. They are a far-too-enduring joke at this point.

They don't even have the Star individual names to justify being a dogshit team.

They don't even have the level of interest on a largely Melbourne-based board to have cracked 3 pages on a match thread.

That's pretty wild in itself.
Yet 17,000 still turned up tonight, and lets face it everyone that goes knows they have no hope of winning.

The MCG tenant whatever they're called simply cant be this uncompetitive year after year.

Maybe a rebrand and start from scratch is needed. The MCG would be rocking with a good team like those early years with Warne, KP etc. They're actually unwatchable, the fielding in those last 2 overs borderline resembled match fixing.

And realistically they and the front office need to be shown the door.

Those two Max and Stoinis are half the problem with Ego’s the size of Mount Everest. When was the last time Atoinis has a good season? Not match but season. As unlucky as Maxwell is thats 3 BBL’s he’s missing a quarter!

Good team? They bought star players but when were they actually good?

17,000 should be telling everyone that the franchise is hopeless and nobody wants to watch them anymore. Absolute pedestrian squad yet for some reason the administration are delusional and can't see it or perhaps don't care as long as their getting the money from the sponsors and Maxwell provides the publicity.

They were regular finalists. Finals chokers sure but they actually use to win a lot of games. Now its just rubbish.
When my kids were little we rarely missed a game (3 hrs each way) - they actually had some actual ⭐️ playing - it’s a long time ago now

17k is a disaster. That's Melbourne as a city collectively telling you that they just do not give a shit any more.

There wouldn't be many AFL crowds fewer than 17k in Melbourne over the course of a year (1-2 maybe, at Docklands featuring northern expansion clubs?) That's worse than the Storm's worse crowd in a non-rugby league city. That's barely more than a Melbourne Victory crowd, and the A-League has almost become an irrelevance to anyone that doesn't already follow football.

Who is Stars main strike bowler, oh they haven’t got one
Stars best chance of winning is batting second as that bowling attack ain’t going to win you any games

Duckett and Maxwell will strengthen there batting, whose going to strengthen there bowling attack Maxwell

David Hussey's plan to destroy Cricket Victoria from within is going beautifully. Genius move to bring operation of the two clubs into one organisation (yes that was done before him, but he's continued to run them into the ground).

Outside of derbies against Melbourne City the Victory have been getting under 10k and they're actually winning.

The Storm are the only remotely relevant non afl sports team here.

17k to watch essentially an under 13s grade team is about 17k too many. The stadium actually needs to be completely empty.

Milne is decent but he’s past his best unfortunately the rest boy. If Stoinis is opening the bowling that says it all

Changes for next game

Clarke out Duckett in
Kellaway out Maxwell in
Couch out ? Steketee or Paris in or are they injured
Milne out Usama Mir in (if available)

Might have to call up old man Siddle

Boland most likely will be unavailable

Not a great bowling attack, looks like there relying on a lot of allrounders to get the job done

The Heat pissing off Lynn and McCullum really did turn their team in to an actual team and not a travelling circus to support Lynn, McCullum's and Boof's booze, partying and gambling habits. I actually recommend watching the Reignited documentary on the Heat's YouTube channel, some pretty honest insight about what the Heat was like and what was decided needed to be done to turn things around, as well as the player insight. Well put together and enjoyable. Stopped short of calling Lynn and McCullum by name but it was very obvious who a lot of the comments at the start of the doco were about. The culture shift has been enormous in the last 3 seasons or so.

I’d keep Kellaway in but how about batting him where he should be! He isn’t a 9!

Think Paris is injured but other changes suit. Would look at Stoinis batting 1-2 slots lower.

Boland won’t be available and not sure on Webster. Is Marsh bowling fit? The useless lemon bowled 2 overs with a bowler down!

But just think of all the moral victories you'd have if you'd kept McCullum around. The Bazbane Heat!

Meanwhile the Stars who have a captain that somehow broke his leg at a friend's party, concussed himself falling off a golf cart and had to go to hospital for "dehydration" in 18 months. And that's just what's got into the media.

The Melbourne Stars are actually ruining the BBL. It is imperative for the success of the competition that there is a strong Melbourne team in it attracting good crowds. The Boxing Day Test will attract 80,000 on the first day, but the Melbourne Stars are once again an embarrassment and interest in the BBL has fallen away dramatically. They need to be attracting 40,000 per game!

I think it's great Test Cricket is showing up the BBL personally.

I think a lot of Australians really don't care about the format.

It's there for entertainment but in terms of emotional investment T20 cricket doesn't strike at the heartstrings that Test Cricket does.

Australia has been left behind in the world of T20 cricket, the BBL is an ordinary competition. The cricket going public may have fallen out of love with it already, meanwhile it's booming everywhere else. Maybe Melbourne is top heavy with teams and should only have one? The sports capital of Australia just hasn't taken to it! The Boxing day Test looks like being a ripper weather wise and should attract 80,000 people, I doubt the Stars will attract 80,000 all season at the MCG!

Sam Konstas seems to care about T20 and its a rare thing to see a cricketer show love for their T20 franchise, given his age. Maybe less so about his uproots.

The thing with the Stars being a team with alot of cricketers with interstate recruiting or recruited from the Renegades- they are a team with no emotional attachment to the side for me. Maxwell, Harper, Webster, Joe Clarke are former Renegade players. 3 international recruits (Mir, Tom Curran and now Duckett coming). WA cricketers win Stoinis, Cartwright, McKenzie (and formerly Coulter-Nile), Joel Paris, Brody Couch. Peter Moores English coach.

It shows in their body language. Maybe its time to blood local young Victorian talent rather than going around Australia in search of it.

The management of Vic cricket have failed to delineate between the two teams and create supporter bases for each from day dot. In theory they drew a line down the centre of Melbourne and everything to tge West was Renegades and to the East was Stars - it was never going to work

Victorians love the MCG, it is our spiritual sporting home - particularly in Summer - Marvel just doesn’t have the same feel, Kardinia Park 🤪

Unlike Sydney we don’t have the natural divide between Sydney and Western Sydney. So it’s manufactured and it shows.

The Stars Management have repeatedly made mistakes with recruitment and the flip flop of players between the two franchises is ridiculous.

They could do well to watch the Heat Doco and learn some lessons but both Teams need to define who they are and what they represent.
