Brilliant over from Ellis.

Interesting how these two decide to play it. Do they take a couple of overs to resettle or do they keep going hard?

Play normally Ellis won’t bowl till the surge

How many shields? 3 or 4? Worth more than big bash
Three shields. The first Shield win is up there for significant days in Tassie sport too.

For me that first Gillette Cup win was the biggest cricket day for Tassie though, as we were still true cricketing minnows at the time (we weren't even full members of the Shield comp) and I don't think anyone expected us to win as a result.

At the time, off the top of my head, 9 of the 11 Western Australians had played Test cricket, whereas only 1 of the Tasmanian side had played Test cricket (Jack Hampshire, for England). Although Boon and Woolley went on to play Tests down the track.

It's a pity footage of the game doesn't seem to exist, as I remember watching it on TV and the place just went off. It was a spectacular day.

I think the JackJumpers last season were probably bigger than both of them.

Although for the purists it was the first Shield win. (Pura Cup win  )
Yeah, good point. I didn't even think about basketball.

If we are talking that then, we could even go back to Launceston Casino City winning the NBL in 1981. That was a massive achievement.

When basketball was big in the 90s we used to treat the Tornadoes as a pretty big deal, they were the hottest ticket in town for a while when they were winning the south conference!

Boonie getting the beer drinking record from Australia to London is surely Tassie's best sporting achievement.

He beat the great WA beer drinker Rod Marsh's record and it will never be beaten as they would never allow that these days.

Not that any Aussie players these days would be able to break it even if it was allowed as they are all a bunch of lightweights.

Gannon has such a strange action. There are times when he's egregiously throwing it, then in the same over his action is McGrath like. I've never seen anyone go from chocolates to boiled lollies so quickly in terms of a bowling action!
