Straight off the bat, I do not want a 'bag Beau Dowler' thread, I like the kid but I do have a query....

As he is not getting a seniors gig and is playing ordinary footy at BH from all reports, where does this leave his career???

Surely his trade value decreases due to the aforementioned information, can his career be resurrected or is it curtains for BD???

I think he can make it. Showed good signs last year in the seniors but looks to be out of favor now.

As for trade value it is probably stuff all of nothing. He hasn't really played enough games to get any value and I could see Sydney jump at him in trade week and turn him into a good forward. I think he would be the sort of player they would go after.

I'm guessing someone will give him another shot.
I'm thinking Essendon coz they need another tall forward - and teams seem to remember when someone does OK against them (round 22, 2009). But who knows.

Sadly I think his papers are stamped at Hawthorn though...

Been in the system a while now, still plays behind when playing forward, not showing any form at Boxhill unfortunately a spot next to Thorp beckons at Werribee

I agree and Sydney could be a good fit, I would of liked to have seen if we were a good fit though

I'd rather a please explain from the coaching staff for not giving him a go?
If you feel like you're on the outer, you play the same.

No senior player who's gone back to the VFL has dominated.

It is an interesting point SP, they (the staff) and Beau I would think? would have the reasons why he isn't getting a gig....

for instance the club would surely be saying "lift in this area" etc and if you do, your name will be under the selectors nose...this should provide enough incentive to raise the bar accordingly, it just hasn't happened..

Playing from behind is just an observation I have seen, and if you can spot it from the outer you can be assured the coaches would have been pulling their hair out.
Everybody has their own style which is what people are convinced works for them and bad habits can be hard to break.

I have lost my hair due to Buddy trying to outbody defenders.

.

In essense you are saying that it is between his ears then???

I agree with you and I think if we were going to use the three talls up front than it would make sense to play him. But we are going with more smalls to increase the tackle pressure in the forward 50.

Your observations should surely then extend to the seniors...I have rarely seen Roughie or Buddy play in front all year? Maybe our forward coach is playing them to a different drum compared to the last few years??

Bring back Buddy's box I say!

Will end up being another promising youngster not given a fair chance at Hawthorn for no logical reason.

For every reason that someone comes up with, there is at least 1 player in the seniors who goes against this theory.

As it stands if we didn't have 2 new teams entering the competition, there wouldn't be another team that would risk a pick on him.

That said given the lack of options to some clubs he may get rookie listed at best.

As far as compensation to the Hawks, can't see too many clubs lining up to bid on a player that can't make in impact at VFL level.

Would love nothing more than to see this bloke turn it around, but sadly I think like Thorp he will be remembered as another wasted top ten draft pick.:(

Get him playing some game towards the end of the season. Hope like hell he shows something, then package him with a pick to Carlton for one of their rucks.

I like that thinking but no pick, just a straight swap for Hampson - both players have the potential to be great players but for whatever reason aren't pushing for selection as they should be.

As the season progresses hopefully our ruck woes will be but a distant memory, Taylor & Bailey back will guarantee that. And I reckon Renouf's education and standing in the game has advanced 3 years by having to stand up when no one else could - make no mistake, he is a man.

However Hampson - I see him as the archetypal CHB of the future - extremely tall, super fast, good hands and having come from a soccer background, a natural fit down back.

Posters who know me know that I will back any Hawthorn listed player until they are no longer on it, I want every player to do their absolute best for the Hawks but Beau - the time is now to make your mark, you are rated as part of the future at Hawthorn, otherwise you would have been traded last season.

It's wholly up to you - get your skates on lad.

Zero trade value.

Close, but no cigar. Could still reel in a six-pack of assorted Krispy Kremes and a bottle of Schweppes Traditional Lemonade (600ml bottle, shelf warm only, not chilled).

And therein lies the dilemma.

He's not getting any sort of run with us, and his Box Hill form suggests he's a way off doing so, assuming talk of the coaching panel having already stamped his papers isn't true.

So while our overall KPP stocks are light-on, he's not (for whatever reason) providing anything to firm them up and yet, paradoxically, could still be worth more to us than he would be to jetison purely because he is a KPP.

I've been hoping to see him in the top side to get a better fix on this one. My immediate feeling is that we should retain him, but if the coaching staff has made up its mind regardless then we should move him on (even if its for nix) as he cannot give us anything regardless and we should therefore at least try and do the right thing by him.

Gumbleton ? Hurley ? Neagle ?

Was he playing well at Box Hill before making the side last year?

I think he should get a game or two in the seniors. Some players don't go too well at VFL level.
