It’s very much a luxury we can afford. He’s always ventured up into the midfield and beyond during play. The entire team squeeze’s up into the defensive half so it’s silly to suggest otherwise. The critical tackle that was much applauded the previous week was at HB as a case in point. Mondays game was little different.
No he’s definitely pushing a little higher up and getting involved in play in places he never used to. No par for the course, McCreerys game and instructions are evolving without a shadow of a doubt.

The kid is sensational at what he does and is as strong as a donkey, but am I the only one that sees untapped midfield potential in him?

Robbing Peter to pay sure, but the kid is hostile, has toe, kicks like a ****ing seahorse and is stronger than most over the ball. Spatial awareness the only issue? I dunno, but I see scope in McCreery that runs well beyond a good pressure forward.

Would love to see him chasing c*nts down and linking up, kicking into 50 on the regular, has all the traits to be a very damaging midfielder IMO.

Yep, but he’s been doing it all year. Last year rarely ventured past the centre circle. Been pushing further into defence this year. Ginnivan doing the same. Earlier in the year when WHE was playing forward he was also doing it.

He has the potential to be a very damaging midfielder with the traits to be a line breaker that we hoped Nathan Freeman would be.

I’m not sure he’ll ever be anything more than an occasional mid once he starts getting rotations. Seems to be too reactive rather than proactive for mine. Maybe an occasional run-with role.

McCreery is not clean enough to be a mid and nor are disposal skills strong enough. Maybe as a tagger against a beast like Dangerfield or Martyn. What he is a great role player up forward. Super budget Cyril in terms of being able to apply pressure. If he can kick 1-2 goals a game even better.

Nah, I think you’ve missed the point. I was talking specifically about his work as a pressure forward which is elite and some posters preseason were suggesting he could/should be replaced with (say) Macrae because McCreery just doesn’t get enough footy. Much of the discussion following the Dees game was acknowledging that he doesn’t actually need to accumulate big possession numbers to impact the game. That his pace, aggression, and will toward the 2nd, 3rd, or whatever is required follow up contests make him a key component of our forward group.

That he can rotate further afield a bonus, but not the point I was seeking to address, and not a requirement for his continued selection.

He had a few games where he wasn’t impacting the game at all. Not unreasonable at the time for some posters suggesting he need a run in the seconds to get some form back. …myself included. I’m glad I was wrong. But I’m also happy to see him wander higher upfield.

I'm not keen on pushing him into the midfield at this point; he does fine with some license to move up the ground.

However, I can't agree that he isn't clean (a beautiful pick-up of the ball) and his disposal by hand and foot has (so far) struck me as above average.

Commentary on the radio said he is the second strongest bloke at the club which got me thinking who's first?Grundy,Jordy maybe Darcy not sure

When? We’re talking preseason remember, not through his recent illness impacted period. Even then, either period the players on our list currently able to offer anything close to similar F50 pressure are Elliott (already in the side), Cal Brown, and Tyler Brown. McInnes shows potential but nowhere near it yet. Harrison and Murley even further back. The (then) suggestion we’d be better off playing Macrae instead would be as wrong now as it was preseason.

I’ve already said that I was wrong at the time that I thought he needed a run in the twos. Why are you still arguing with me?

Generally clubs will have a strength board with two categories, one overall record and the other bodyweight record

Not sure about that. Weightlifting clubs would but footy clubs wouldn't.

Long distance runs favour the gazelles, strength work favours the buffalos. :) no weight divisions within the club.

It's up to the sports science team to collate this data for each individual to determine where they're at for their age/size etc...

Strength would be tested against standard movements, not sure what they'd be at the club. Powerlifters test the back-squat, deadlift, and bench.

He’s had a great beginning to a hopefully long career with us. It would seem that tackling technique has been a focus judging by our improvement in this area team wide. I’m sure Beau’s tenacity, repeated chases and tackling technique have inspired his team mates to improve in this area. Seeing him now finding the ball in dangerous positions more and sprinting into space then delivering impeccably is exciting. I think his awareness is high quality also. A couple of his handballs to free up players demonstrated this. And his set shot kicking is also very good. We’ve picked up a beauty😊

Collingwood tackling coaches: Beau McCreery, Brayden Maynard, Jack Ginnivan
