Was drafted in 2003 and on our list from 2004 until the start of 2015.

He debuted early in his first year and played 10 games, but missed 2005, 2009 and 2014. Three entire seasons missed due to injury, to go with a few half seasons.

His career progression is as such:

2004: First year, played 10 games
2005: Missed the entire season through injury
2006: 23 games, played in our flag
2007: 20 games
2008: 8 games
2009: Missed the entire season through injury
2010: 21 games
2011: 11 games
2012: 20 games, made the AA side
2013: 7 games
2014: Missed the entire season through injury
2015: **** it, I'm done

11 full seasons on a list, played more than half the games in a season 4 times. Just couldn't catch a break. Well apart the 206 bones in his body - he had a decent crack at most of them. I'm glad he finishes a 100 gamer with an AA selection and a premiership medal.

Good player but I never got the "hard man" tag that Eagles supporters applied to him and this video does nothing to change that opinion. Might have something to do with the low standard set by his team mates I guess? Didn't take a backward step but nothing extraordinary.

Sad to see a player go out like this though, could have had a very good career. Probably should have retired at the end of the season before last when it became obvious that his injuries were never going to allow him to play anywhere near his prime. Shame.

Question is with Beau gone, was he the last player who could and would consistently deliver bone crunching hip and shoulders (mostly inside the rules)? Sure you still see them, it's inevitable the way footy's played, but Beau and Lenny were 2 of the last blokes who had it as a genuine skill in their repertoire.
You are absolutely right, Beau had the very uncommon ability to lay a massive, but fair, bump. If you look at the footage, a lot of Beau's bumps are flush on the chest. Any head contact comes from the opponent's head snapping forward (in the last couple of years this may have got him done as he initiated the bump - but he obviously played very little in recent years).

I struggle to think of anyone who can routinely lay massive, fair bumps these days...maybe Hodge?

Gee, I wonder why???

All you campaigners shitting on Beau because he was an eagle should stop being so narrow minded. Put the colours he wore aside for just a little while, and appreciate his stellar career. It doesn't matter what team he played for, He played his heart out everytime he ran onto the field, his precense and love of the game lifted all of his team mates spirits and made it a more enjoyable experience for everyone. He wasn't just a vital cog at the eagles, he was a much needed player in the AFL. Especially in this time where the game needs to find its hard edge.

He may have only played 120 games on record. But the way he played makes it more 300 games in my opinion. He never left anything in the tank. A true champion.

You will be missed Beau.

'Beau Waters clears out his hurt locker'

The first evidence I encountered that Waters may have been a tad unbalanced came in 2006, in the dying stages of a game against the Brisbane Lions at Subiaco Oval.

With his Eagles up by 50-odd points and the clock winding down, Waters chose to run past the footy in an attempt to inflict permanent neurological damage on Robert Copeland.

Club champion but not an AFL champion. Much like Michael Wilson from Port or numerous players that every team could name. Also is it just me or when someone misses a lot of their career due to injury we generally tend to overrate the rest of their career...

Pretty much Beau's only mistake onfield when it comes to laying a bump

Twas a shocker and he was bloody lucky to walk away with 2 weeks only. Deserved a month minimum.

Bit unfair to characterise a bloke from one incident though

There are very few "hard men" in footy these days because the MRP doesn't allow for them. Guys like Mal Brown, Robbie Muir etc. won't be seen again. Byron Pickett, John Worsfold etc. would be lucky to play half a season.

Waters put his head over the ball, backed into packs and had zero regard for his own safety. That's about as hard as you can be in modern footy - unless I'm missing all those other players who throw themselves in front of an oncoming Jonathan Brown...

Some people know so little about footy...
