Beau Waters...

He'll get 3 downgraded to 2. For those who are saying it was a "weak act", I doubt you really watched the same game that everyone else did. Copeland ducked his head and Waters had no time to adjust as he was ready to hit Copeland fair and square in the shoulder or a shirtfront but Copeland's head obviously copped the brunt of it as he lost his footing.

It was high contact and for that he'll go, but I for one hope this doesn't stop his ruthless attack on the footy because at the moment he would have to be one of the toughest players in the AFL.

How many times have we seen him backing into a pack, getting crunched and get straight back up. He also lays bone crunching hits (such as the one talked about). He shows terrific courage but he needs to improve his kicking
which seems to have gone downhill since his OP last year.

And for those Brisbane supporters not understanding why everyone hates Copeland, it is because he is a dirty player. Watch him scrag at blokes behind play, headbutt them and jumperpunch. Playing cheap and dirty like Copeland is alot different to an accidental mistimed bump by a young, tough but fair player.

2 maybe 3 SEASONS! C'Mon woosha, why persist a footballer that dose'nt match up to the standard.

Considering the amount of hits Waters has dealt out this year, this was going to happen sooner or later. Players of his type always get done once a year or so and every good team has someone like that. Have a look at the amount of hits he takes with his own head over the ball.

As for persisting with him - you've got to be kidding me, the kid's upside is enourmous. He has missed a lot of footy and is better off learning in the big time than in the WAFL. He'll get a recall within 2-3 weeks of getting back from suspension, the coaches love him.

Awesome hit, pity it was right at the end. Love seeing that kinda thing in footy. Wish the shirt-front was still allowed.

I hope he gets nothing, but the afl treats the players like a bunch of pansies. So he'll get a few weeks.

Copeland had to be admitted to hospital for scans on his neck.Bad bruising in a particualar vertebra.
He should be ok to fly home tonight.

He had his head over the footy,he has a vetebral injury.
I think the West Coast guy is in trouble.
The head is sacrosanct, no if's buts or maybes.

Head high hit, the guy in hospital with verabral damage. You know, I think beau Waters has a case to answer.
I certainly don't ever want to see any player injured by another on a footy field.Let alone in hospital, due to someones actions.
You always protect the head. The player was playing the ball, the WC player wasn't he was going the man, no intent on the ball.

Weak, not thuggish.

Would want to stamp that out of his game quickly though.

Yes I agree and I think that we neeed to start with the weak acts Lions perform weak in weak out on the football field...

In so far as how many weeks? I think couple as it was not a great act. Having said that given that he toook out Copeland I think AFL wil let him off...:)

Ohh stop being so malodramatic... Copland did not go to hospital at all and he did signal that he was ok whilst carried of on a strecher... The strecher is just a precaution.

Whilst the type of an act is careless the simple fact of life is that its not pre-meditated. In fact this happens very often and each team has their protagonists, i.e. Scott brothers and Chris Johnson at Brisbane...

You should think and read before you actually speak. He was taken to hospital, he had scans on his neck.Taken form the AFL website.

The fact that you said that he should be ok to fly home tonight means that there is nothing significantly wrong with him. If there was ever any doubt about his injury he would not be flying as its the worse thing you could do for a spinal injury. The scans were just a precaution and he was ok. The point I was making was that you were being a overdramatic with your carry on...

Pain in, and severe bruising and swelling to a neck vertebra is not being overdramatic. It is not a nothing occurance.I suppose the guy Croad hit is okay as weel, even though he was disorientated and vomiting and in hospital.

If he was ok as you originally stated, he would have not been sent from the stretcher to the hospital immediately. He would have been with the players eating their meal at the team hotel, except he was in hospital.

I think that Beau may well get a suspension. As I don't really understand how the AFL tribunal works I have no idea how long it might be. The act seemed foolish and I hope that, if he is suspended, he is more careful in future. I love the way Beau Waters throws himself into his footy , but he needs to learn a little discretion.

Anywhere between 1 and 4 weeks. Would have been better off going for the ball, probably would have still collected him but it would have been legit.

Just saw it on on Fox Footy. If Waters has form - and why doesn't the AFL publish a list of points outstanding on all players so we know all this? - then 3, otherwise 2 with an early plea.

How many?
That bump was particularly dangerous. Actually "snapped" Copeland's neck backwards causing a "pin and needles". That type of danger is why that rule was brought in. For that reason.... penalty 4-6 weeks. Probably 4. You might find it's a Byron Pickett type of incident from last year. No points and penalty offer, straight to the tribunal.

Awesome hit.....front-on bump, head over the ball, neck "snapped" back. Good god!!!! Great if it was a crushing hip and shoulder from the side, got no problems with that, love that part actually, should be more of it, but let's not talk "awesome hit" for something that can potentially put someone in a wheelchair. While I agree the AFL is turning it into a pansie game at time, this one's a good rule given the potential danger.

Watching it in slow mo - Waters actually "disposed" of the ball off his shin moments before impact. Is that likely to affect the outcome of the tribunal???

Any views?

Just saw it, very similar to Pickett's last year. Expect at least 4 I'd guess. Went for the man instead of the ball, will be punished for it.

despite all the well thought out "2-5 weeks i reakon" type comments, anyone with a reasonable understanding of the system, care to actually calculate what it might be? ie...

charging
high contact - 2 points
medium impact - 2 points
intentional - 3 points
in play - 0 points

7 activation points = level 3 offence drawing 325 activation points
-25% good behavior(?)
-25% early plea

cant see him getting over 2 weeks really

Spot on. Although I don't think the head hit was intentional, the hit was intended for the body, but I reckon the interpretation will be on the intent of the action rather the target.
