Foxfooty.com.au understands senior figures at League HQ are pushing for the 2017 Adelaide premiership coach to have a role in the women’s competition again.
Gillon McLachlan, Steve Hocking and AFLW boss Nicole Livingston are all believed to be supporters of Goddard and would like to see her back in the industry.
The news comes as the Magpies prepare to interview her for the job vacated by Wayne Siekman. Goddard has not officially applied yet, although there is little doubt she will partake in the three-week interview process.
The role of AFLW senior coach also encompasses key responsibilities with the club’s VFLW side, which would almost certainly lead to a full-time appointment. One of the sticking points with Goddard and Adelaide was the Crows unwillingness to find a football role in the winter for their women’s coach.
Although the AFL will not interfere with Collingwood’s thorough process, there is a strong view at Docklands that Goddard’s expertise should be utilised in the women’s competition and her appointment would be strongly endorsed.
