I was reading the paper today at work and there was an article with Cuz saying he would like to get into coaching in some form.
I don't know how to link the article, its either the new bigfooty format or its one of those pay to view sites, if anyone can help please do so.
I was surprised there has been no talk about it on here.
Personally I think he has a lot to offer and could end up a win/win situation, nothing more healthier than a solid football environment but I do understand why clubs would give him a wide berth, what do you guys think?

I think he would be a good coach at any level. From all reports when he was at the Tigers he was awesome for the young tigers and was a great leader.

However he's gonna struggle to get a chance because of his history (which is unfortunate). It also may help him off the field as it will give him a more structured life.

Paying his dues in the lower leagues is the best (and really only) way to go.

p.s. It does not help when dick heads like Tom Harley come out and say they would not like there kids being coach by him. Does he really need to say that. It's already gonna be hard for cuz, no need to kick him further.

I reckon he would be an awesome coach. Listen to the Richmond guys talk about him and it clear the guy knows his footy. But yeah, as others have said, needs to stay clean.

Still reckon if he could get clean, could be a great get for a side like GC or GWS looking to teach their young mids about the game.

Would be a great coach, would love him at North, or coaching my kids (in footy(When I have kids)(Is a bracket a new sentence, so it must start with a capital letter and end with a full stop?)) in any capacity.

Too risky.

Drug addiction takes a long time to get over and some never get over it. The risk as that he drops the ball and starts going on benders. I think he's being optimistic. As a person and football brain I think he'd have lots to offer - but go hold down an assistant role in the WAFL for 3 years and prove you can handle it.

I'd think if he was more actively involved in a footy club, it'd improve his chances at a successful recovery. Obviously there'd be behavioural clauses in his contract. IIRC, similar views were expressed prior to his stint at Richmond and that move seemed reasonably successful.

would the afl have the same drug policy on coaches as players. i.e: the 3 strikes
anyone know??

If he's any good at it then give him a job as an assistant at a vfl, or interstate equivalent club. Let him earn his bearings from a lower level and slowly bring him back into the afl system.

Tom Harley needs to get his head out of his arseh*le, it's not like Cuz is going to walk around giving juniors baggies of meth. The only thing Cuz seems to have ever taken seriously is his footy so it would be worth a crack (no pun intended) giving him a minor role somewhere at a club

Would want him as a coach in a football only environment. Could teach so much to players about preparation and work ethic. You'd think he'd be kept out of many social functions however.

Im sorry I wouldn't know, Im still hoping someone will post a link to the article. And I agree with others on here, Harley should pull his head in.

Sure, but a club is looking to improve their football department, not rehabilitate Ben Cousins. Needs to go prove himself.

Addicts are irrational so until it was proven and convinced that Cousins was treading the straight than you have to consider the option that Cousins may be harmful including distrubuting bags of Meth or getting high in inappropriate places. It's not likely but it has to tick the box of possible risk.

There is no doubt that Cousins is more than capapble to teach football skills and strategy but Cousins has to prove a sustained ability to stay clean and out of trouble. Until that happens you have to consider the good for everybody not just Ben.

Here's hoping he can turn this around and get to that point.

not in the short term, was in court just the other day wasnt he?

his brain would have to be pretty fried now though, once your cooked it doesnt magically go back to normal.

Wont get a gig in AFL circles.

Perfect fit for Richmond.
It only took post #10 before a legitimate OP turned into a troll fest / Bay 13 style thread. Couldnt you simply scroll down and click on "Bay 13"? FFS

Cousins has had more than his fair share of issues and all self inflicted. And to suggest these issues are in someway tied to the club that gave him a second chance is childish at best. Ben would obviously need to prove himself and start from scratch in the VFL or similar before he's taken seriously at elite level.
