Finding the 30 or so kids will be a bigger issue, without stealing them from the junior league
I dont think it is possable for some teams to have under 17s but if benalla junior football falls into line with the rest of the state for age groups this will help.
Got give them credit for trying though, they could just lay down and die.

I see the Goorambat coaching positions are advertised in the paper today. Is Wombat stepping down, or do they have to advertise before reappointing him.

I saw the same thing Midfielder, Could Phil Christie (All Blacks Reserve Coach) be in the mix as a possibility? Have heard he is looking for a senior coaching appointment and didn't get the one at Blacks...

Was he in the running at the Blacks. Heard they had a few interested early.

i have to agree with a few of you people on here. I cant imagine the B&DFL running successfully for another season, things are getting too boring playing wach side 4 or 5 times. I think the stronger sides should move to another league to maintain the quality of those sides such as Longwood and the Batters.

Only option next year is to reduce the amount of rounds played. Play each other 3 times and ground dependant on starts be one of the first leagues to finish. This will keep a few interested who oterwise are getting bored and also means the early rounds are gold when you win.

What would be the point of having less rounds i think that, that would make the BnD into a very boring league to play in.

Play fewer rounds? I dont think it would work, we need to scrap the league and set ourselves up in a stronger league. Maybe all of our clubs wouldnt be that successful for the first few years but i do believe that some would be successful. Batters and the Leggers would put up a good fight. Ofcourse the Longwood @'s would be gugely successful as i think alot of @s sides would be as we have a good 2's comp in the BDFL:thumbsu:

Are you of the belief that if the BDFL stays as it is all sides will suffer, if they move to another league some will survive? I beleive the BDFL is a necessary league and should keep going. Pick up All Blacks & Yea and then go from there, try to get Devenish going again. Things would then be more tempting to Alex, T-Eildon & Violet Town and in time they might join.

But if you can't wait...

Longwood would be a KDFL fit and in time should be able to organise 3rds (a few KDFL clubs have had times over the years where there 3rds were in recess).

Goorambat could go O&K or maybe PDFL (when it splits co it has 16 teams).

As for Tatong & Swanpool (my guess is Tatong-Swanpool before the end of the decade) and Bonnie Doon a bit harder to find a home.

Bonnie Doon to go with Yea, T-Eildon and Alex into YVMDFL div 2. and Tatong-Swanpool to O&K?

As Far as im concerned (as a tatong player) i could never see the two clubs join because there would be the death of a Vital Rivalry for both clubs!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think any club looking at a prosperous future would consider the B&D league - where is the marketing, professionalism that other leagues (such as the O&K etc.) are initiating to stay viable in this current difficult climate.

This isn't just about the clubs but the whole league in advertising themselves as being better or an alternative to the other leagues around.

For example, the B&D League medal count - did any of the winners etc get an article the Ensign? Where are the pics, promotions, articles needed to sell yourselves out there. Really, at the moment it seems to be each club for themselves and not looking at the big picture of sustaining the league.

There was a bit about trying to get a thirds comp but that hardly seems viable - what other avenues/options have the league looked at???

I heard Vallender had put in for Tatong's coaching role, but i see it was advertised in the paper today. I had heard Wapling's name thrown around for Swanpool, but rumor has it now that he will be an assistant to Gilchrist at BAB. It wil be interesting to see that now the BAB coahing job has been filled, wheter any of the contenders will put in for these roles. Is the any news on wether wombat is going to continue on at Goorambat?

Sorry gents havnt been on here for a while but i can confirm les gilchrist will be senior coach of benalla all blacks to be assisted by ben wapling for the 2008 season. Club DEFINATLY not interested in propping up the b&d or any other makeshift league...... only way it will happen is if it is out of our hands, but cant see it happening this year!!

Webby and Dodders have always been losers! They are the kind of blokes that give the league a bad name with their head hunting tactics. They are a couple of thugs, although i do have to admit they can play the game.

yes they are losers
no their not head hunters
no their not thugs
webb can play
dodders cant play
dodders does like to run his mouth as long as its against someone
he dosent need to worry about closing it
the league gives itself a bad name

i have heard that discussions are afoot with merging Longwood and Avenel. Will happen sooner than later. Anyone else heard this whisper as Longwood dont appear to have Redfern as coach and alot have already said they will leave to other clubs for next year because of the repetitive nature of the league and the umpires without spines who do nothing to help clean it up

The best thing for all involved would be a webby-dodders divorce
