No I won’t NeonLeon1. It is important we at Maryborough FNC maintain high standards as we have always done. I am certainly not going to lower my standards or that of the club. Let’s just say those clubs know who they are and some are located in close proximity to Maryborough and others are further away.

The manner in how some of these clubs acted was nothing short of a disgrace.
Well put, good on you.

lfg, did you consider fielding reserves and under 18's teams like Kyneton did a few years back?

Having to start again from scratch seems a massive task?

The club definitely wanted to field 18s and they felt like they would have had a pretty good team in the end (16s made finals).

Yes AlburyE we certainly did discuss this. As tasmanlvr stated we have a really strong junior club at the moment and would have a reasonable unders team in 2025. The majority of players would be first year under 18 which may provide some challenges but we did consider this and a reserves team as part of our discussions.

At the end we just believe a year off where our review continues (which is well advanced) and we get everything in place for a rebirth in 2026. I am confident we will get there although there is a lot of work ahead of us. One thing we have been working on is player numbers and with everything that has occurred we are pleased with the responses received so far.

The commitment by many to get the club back up and running has been fantastic. It has certainly galvanised the club and through adversity often comes positivity.

There is a long road ahead.

I reckon reading between the lines that the giants and Maryborough will merge in 26 play out of princes Park. Geez I hope the afl play a practice game there this year. Hopefully in the bfl, they need 12 months to find a coach and have a long term plan for their future

Who uses Princes Park for games next year? Will it be redundant or will the Giants share games between there and the old Royal Park ground?

We will see Trent the flight Steward what happens. Lots of things can change in twelve months. The Giants did ok this year although Maryborough being a one team town could be a possibility. I think there will be further changes to the football landscape in our area although it won’t be due to help from AFL Victoria who continue to sit on their hands and not do a lot. All things have certainly been considered.

In regards to the use of Princes Park in 2025 Council is looking to undertake some improvements to the playing surface which is a good opportunity to do so considering there is no senior football. In regards to use next year nothing has been confirmed as yet although this will depend on surface works.

As for the AFL playing a game in town, they wouldn’t even know Maryborough existed. They will have a game at the soulless and windswept North Ballarat again I’m sure and state they are taking football to the regional areas….

Has forrest had he's keyboard privileges revoked by the town of castlemaine?
He’s been called in on a 3 month contract to league headquarters to put together the 2025 fixture.

All other staff have been granted extended leave to celebrate the recruitment of Broadford in to return the league to its powerhouse days of yesteryear.

Not sure if he will be a 1 point player! Only played one year of under 16s and 2 years of under 18s one which was covid at Square before that was at Kyneton
There's a provision for 15 games per season to be added toward home club status for 2020 & 2021 seasons though think it would've been under 18s years for him and under 18s count for jack shit toward becoming a 1 point player unless Bendigo FL have a by-law to include it toward 40 junior games requirement, so I suspect you're right. Didn't play 5 games of VFL in any season so think he returns as a 3 point player rather than a 5 if he had played 5 VFL games.

Moama presenting to board
I hope BFNL and AFLCV don’t destroy the opportunity to get a proper club into the league. Tell Broadford no thanks get Moama and work on getting Echuca united as well. Hopefully Maryborough can come back more competitive and sustainable. If BFNL gets to 11 clubs so be it. A bye week with 11 team comp wouldn’t be that bad

Too late to tell Broadford no…they are accepted. They may still not get up and running but the league can’t tell them no

In this current environment, it is getting much harder to source three teams from scratch unless you get a whole lot of residents move in which means that outer suburban areas of Melbourne are the most likely to succeed at this. The hardest ones in terms of succeeding are country towns.

If Maryborough go into a second or third season in recess then the odds of coming out of recess will reduce notably as their player base will have eroded and the links will be lost. Broadford have found this out already otherwise they'd be playing next year.

The league would be better eyeing off northern clubs such Moama, Echuca and Cohuna as options. Three ready-made clubs already in its catchment area that will provide greater benefit for the league than one still-speculative scenario that can only raise netball teams.

I think maryborough clubs will merge. I'd think they might be strong for the mcdfl, so either bendigo Ballarat or Central highlands in 2026
